I'm looking at selling my 03 Dodge (see sig. ) for a new 05 White Sport Laramie, shortbox, Auto. . Could someone help me make a decision. I'm not sure if I'm gaining much besides the Laramie Package. How are the 05 compaired to the 03?

thanks again.

More power, assuming that you have currently a 47RE auto, you would be upgrading to the 48RE. Higher payments. Same basic truck.

Mechanically I do not think you will gain anything, you have the 48re if you have a HO, it depends if the higher level interior is worth it to you, probably cost about $8k to get the '05 over you '03. Easy to get the new truck fever reading the board when other people are getting new trucks. You already have your truck setup the way you want it to. If you do decide to get the '05 might as well get the 3500 SRW as well. Nice looking truck by the way.

Yes mine is an HO, so it has the 48re. I like my truck but it's time for a new one. I'm not to thrilled on the looks of the fulls size 4-doors thats coming out so I figured I would upgrade now and then I be good to go.

did they upgrade the 48re on the 05? whatelse did they change, besides more hp?

The way I understand the differences is:

03 = 305/555

04 = 305/555

04. 5= 325/600

05 = 325/600

is this correct? Can you notice the differnce?

Actually the '05 will be 325/610. There is a good write up the current TDR mag about the differences. The '05 gets a few pounds more turbo boost, and an engine computer nearly twice as powerful. You would get the high idle control built in that you run with the cruise buttons on the wheel. The 48re gets a tow/haul button instead of the OD/off. It isn't much good coming down the hills but is great going up because it locks the convertor much sooner and pulls like a manual trans. You will loose some fuel economy though, probably 3-4 mpg depending on driving habits. The 305/555 engines seemed easy on fuel by comparison. The leather in the Laramie seems pretty durable. The seats are the same, and stink IMO but you know what to expect anyway. Depending on the package you may get the electronic 4x4 shift which cleans up the floor and works great. The stereo is better than the '03, though not perfect. Pretty much the same truck though, just minor improvements.

If you are reffering to the mega-cab that is comming out in 2006, as I understand it, that is an optional configuration, but the quad-cab as it exists today will remain in production. The mega-cab will only be available in SWB with SRW.

I think you mean LWB with a short bed? At least that's my understanding. The bed will be 6'3" long because of the bigger cab on the same LWB frame.

you say the 05 are 325/610 so are the 04. 5 the same or were they only 325/600?

thanks.

No. 05 is 325/610. '04. 5 is 325/600.

The other benefit is what seems to be reported as better programming in the Tow/Haul mode with the '05 48RE.

How do you work the high idle from the cruise control buttons? My 05 seems to raise the idle by itself if the outdoor temp is cold enough. I never knew I could control it manualy.

thanks

I have an auto in my 05. How does it work? I don't remember seeing anything about this feature in my manual.

On the 04 & 04. 5's we had to have it enabled. Not sure about 05.

With the engine idling, trans in P or N and foot OFF the brake, turn on the cruise control (if it's not already).

Hit the SET button and the engine will immediately ramp up to 1100 RPM. Use the ACCEL and COAST buttons to vary the speed between 1100 and 1500 RPM. There are no steps, you can stop at any RPM you want.

Kill the fast idle by applying the brake, pushing CANCEL, turning off the cruise, or moving the gear selector.

If it doesn't work now, the dealer should be able to enable it.

Please do not do this without the parking brake being set. Foot OFF the brake means brake pedal.

Ok, who knows how to bypass the auto only idle control for us six shooter guys?

Can't be done. I understand that the idle feature uses a servo control that is part of the auto trans. Someone smarter than me should have more details.
