Perhaps, perhaps not. If you bet wrong you'll buy a new ECM.

A map sensor is inexpensive and simple to replace. A dealer should have one or be able to get one asap.

On edit: You're saying the map sensor has a 5 volt reference voltage supplied but missing? It must originate in the ECM? Perhaps you already need an ecm?

I wouldn't throw parts at it. A Dodge or Cummins dealer should be able to diagnose it.

You say no power. Does the engine start- or even crank? Could have a bad ASD relay, blown fuse, something going on in power dist box. A short in a harness or sensor that's dragging down the Vref? Do you hear the fuel pump? How are you checking for Vref?

i am seeing a the 5 volt viable referance to the oil pressure sensor but not to the map sensor, so could this be a broken wire perhaps or can i power the map by jumping to the oil pressure sensor power.

Sounds like youre on the right track. I wouldnt jump anything. I would find the end of the harness/ sensor and watch the Vref and unplug and wiggle the harness. You just might find the problem... I see your post count, welcome to the TDR.

hello everyone thank you for your help,i need to explain this a little better, i sold this truck to a friend and he is the one driving, he was a dodge diesel mechanic few years ago a little background. he is driving now up into fort myers with low power low egts low boost no voltage to the map sensor but the truck is running and he is pulling 24 ft enclosed. he will be pulling over to check the harness again. we think it may be a short to the 5 volt power to the map sensor. he will probably need it scanned the clostests dealer i found for him is galeanna dodge in fort myers. of course there is no one there now so he will be stuck till morning. do you guys have any contacts in fort myers?or any other suggestions.

thank you again

UPDATE pulled ecm did some checking its bad and needs replaced. fyi this is the second ecm in 14 months on this truck. we suspect that the edge comp is the culprit. edge comp(new 2002) was sent back about 4000 miles ago and replaced by edge comp. not sure if this is the fault of the edge comp but it is a factor. also this truck only has 60k on it.

thank you for everyones help
