i have a 97 2500 a few years ago the air bag was replaced on the steering column when my father had it after it was repaired the dimmers didnt work nor the cruise well found out when i got it that the job was done with little care and the wires was pulled out of place for the dimmer switch which i fixed but i have done everything and without a wiring schematic i am fighting a losing battle my repair manual has a schematic but does show anything for the cruise. can someone help either by knowledge or send me a true schematic for this year truck. i have the clock spring out right now and there is nothing to show me on that how to check it to see if it is working. i can say this i know two things for sure 1 there is no voltage coming to the cruise switch and 2 the dash light which i dont even know where it is at but it doesnt come on either. no lights on the dash says cruise that lights up when i press the switch now i know i dont have voltage to the switch but dont really know how the

light works since i dont have a schematic, now i did replace the switch on the steering wheel but it made no difference. thanks for any help in advance LeRoy

Dash light switch? If you are talking about the lights for the dash your Head- light switch turns them on when it is pulled to "parkinglights' or "headlights" position.

Pull the knob for the headlight switch out to park position and rotate switch the switch mite be turned to off (Best done at night).

Sorry can't help you with wiring.

thank you

but no i am talking abou the light for the cruise which lights up when it is on it does not come on at all . i have dash lights and i dont know the location of the cruise light on the dash that is what i am saying but thanks LeRoy

There is no light on the dash to indicate that the cruise control is on in my '97. There is a little indicator light on the cruise control button on the steering wheel when it's on.

OK - you mention your repair manual - OEM?? if not sorry but the knock-offs do very poorly with electronics and schematics. We'll assume OEM… reference page 8E-9 and 8W-40 sections. My description claims that the cruise-on light (green) should lite for the 2 second dash boot-up. So if not - I'd suspect a bulb problem. As to any influence the muckled wiring in the column would have - the function (not bulb check) of the lamp would be through the CCD buss per the manual - scan tool needed to test that one. I am not certain but suspect the instrument light you describe (yes I've got one too) should be under the <chec> function where you depress odometer pin and then turn the key to on to test all odometer segments, lamps (except 4*4 and WIF??) and gauges for tracking.

thanks yes its not a knock off its a haynes and no its not a good schematic either i have ben try to get a manuel and lost everytime i tried on ebay to buy the factory manuel the dodge dealership said i coulndt get a manuel for my 97 2500 diesel so i am trying to find one scared to try those that say they are and on cd i got one fo them for my bike and they are not that great for it nothing like the clymer manual i got. any ideas where i can find a factory manual i would appreciate it thanks/

Wherever the good people of this site can direct you to an OEM manual - get it. I've found when wiring is concerned ALL the other manuals are 'knockoffs'. Apparently I'm told they're limited to publishing what they 'discover' in taking down a truck—the OEM came from the folks that constructed it in the first place!! Yes I've found flaws in the manual - but its still WAYYYY above the others. Best of luck.

thanks i have found many flaws in the haynes i have so i am going with the factory and pray for the best o got a factory for my firebird and to tell the truth i havent figured out yet how ti real the schematic different that most schematics i have come across so thanks for the info yall have a great afternoon LeRoy
