I'm curious. I've got an '05 2500 and have been tossing the idea of adding an '06 3500 Mega Cab CTD 4x4. I've been to several dealers and am having dificulties figuring out which trucks have a 4:10/ 3:73 ratio rear gear? My '05 has this information inside the glove box, yet all of the trucks I've looked at on dealer lots don't have the sticker in the glove box, and the sales person doesn't have a clue how to tell the difference, let alone know you had an option. This is important to me, and I want to make sure I choose the right gear the first time. Also would there be a way to tell by feel, acceleration, mph . vs rpm at a certain speed? Any help is appreciated. I swore, but am not sure my 2005 listed the ratio on the window sticker, yet the '06 don't??

Thanks in Advance

Are you looking at a auto or 6 speed manual?

If auto it should read the same rpm's your truck does for the same gears. If it reads different then you have the other ratio. It only comes in 2 ratios for the auto and only 3:73 for the manual.

I'm guessing that if the ratio is not listed on the window sticker, then it's the standard 3. 73. The 4. 10's should be an upcharge option.

None of the 2006s I looked at had the glove box label or gear info on the window sticker either. I assume that the salesperson would be interested enough to be able to find out for you, but maybe not.

pwr2tow,

The manuals can have either the 3. 73's or the 4. 10's. i just looked at the dodge website and it is a $50 upcharge for either manuals or autos to have the 4. 10's. When you said that the manuals could only have 3. 73s I thought that strange being I have a manual with 4. 10s, granted it is an 2003. So i looked and found that you can have either gear with either transmission.

The G56 6 speed manual is geared lower than the NV5600. Therefore the G56 w/ 3. 73 is the same as a NV 5600 w/ 4. 10's.

The 06 trucks with the manual transmission is a G56 and only come with 3:73 gears.

The 06 trucks with automatic transmission can be ordered with either 3:73 or 4:10 gears.

Earlier model trucks with the NV4500 and NV5600 manual transmission could be ordered with either the 3:73 or 4:10's.

The 06 manual trucks only come with 3:73 gears from the factory, they could how ever be converted aftermarket to 4:10's and would make one hell of a pulling machine but it would be no good for interstate highway use.

My '06 automatic shows 4. 10 on the window sticker as an option. The other '06's I saw said nothing if it was a 3. 73. No sticker in the glove box like the earlier trucks had. I haven't looked but there should be a tag on the rear pumpkin I would guess. Have somebody crawl under and look for you if they want to sell it.

The 3. 73 gears are standard and do not show up on the window sticker.

If the truck has 4. 10's, it's listed as a $50 option on the sticker.

They are few and far between around here.

Upcharge of $50 for the 4. 10's in my '06. No glovebox sticker. There also should be a sticker on the axle itself. My '03 did.

Look on the window sticker, it should be listed.

It isn't listed on the window sticker from my truck. It is listed on the build list though.
The dealer can print out a build list for any vehicle, and it lists EVERYTHING!

I was always told by my dealer that, you could tell if a truck had 3. 73 's because they were all limted slip. But 4. 10 's are always anti-spin rear. Is there any truth to that?

If anyone could elaborate, Which gear ratio would be better to get? I am having a truck built, and I opted for the 3. 73 with the Limited slip axle option. What would be the advatage or disadvantage of having the 4. 10 instead? I am planning on installing some 35x12. 5 toyos on the truck, a day or 2 after delivery if that makes a difference. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

I opted for the 4. 10's for the reason you listed, bigger tires. If you plan on towing heavy, 4. 10's for sure, I tow heavy and soon to be heavier, and wish I had MORE gearing!

Umm, have the dealer print the build sheet out... should take them 2 seconds and it will list EVERY option the truck has...

That's how I bought mine sight unseen...
