ABS and Brake Light problems

Hey Big Don.............

I was on a trip the other day and was travelling up Monarch pass( about 6-7 percent grade) and loaded with only a couple of bags the usual trips worth of basic tools. I was going up in 5th gear about 55-60 mph. Going around the curves I would slow to about 45-50 and then accelerate lightly back up. I turned the radio off to listen to the sweet sound of the Cummins and SURPRISE, it was making a strange noise. It kind of sounded like a tire air leak that would start slow and then get faster. I noticed the boost guage would go to about 16psi and stop and flutter. I normally see 26 psi boost on a hard pull. It would not go over 16 no matter how hard I pushed it. I backed off a bunch and babied it down the other side. On the flat again a few minutes later I laid into it again, 26 psi and pulling hard. Any ideas from anyone, I am thinking probably the rubber intercooler lines or the wastegate hose. I haven't found anyholes or loose clamps though. If it helps it sounded like it was coming from the passengers side. Thanks.

Crud in the wastegate? Sticky actuator? Otherwise agree about checking the hoses and clamps. You ever come up with pictures of that exhaust you had built? Coming out to visit my wife's family in Paonia and Hotchkiss for 4th of July. I've been ready to buy the Banks system for some time but love the idea of 4". Maybe I'll have your friend do it. Good luck with boost problem.

Thought noone was interested in the 4" exhaust, I'll go out tommorow and take a couple of Polaroids. I hope they turn out OK. Chancey had his shop burn down the first week of August but they have started rebuilding. The 4" exhaust is made out of bought bends though and he already has a new welder and a couple of things. You might need to buy a down pipe, that is the only thing he bends. The rest of the system is just patient fitting and more patience;) . I personally would never buy anything from Banks again. I had a MAJOR problem with them once and love my 4" exhaust. I passed a friend of mine the other day at about 80 and screaming at 2500 rpm, he said his whole car shook and one friend with him about had a coronary:D

If it sounds like its on the passenger side, check where the air conditioner line lays on the rubber boot next to the radiator. A couple of us were discussing this about 2 weeks ago. found a badly worn spot and repositioned the line.

Just a thought:)

Actually that was the first spot I looked. I found a rub spot but nothing close to a hole. I haven't had the problem again, I came back over Monarch on Saturday. I am beginning to think maybe something was up with the wastegate.

Hey mprtrpr, Glad to hear your problem stopped. Hope for good. I'll look forward to those pictures. Are you going to scan and post or do you want to send them? Sorry to hear about the shop. Did Chancey manage to create a 4" downpipe and weld on the 3" adapter? Seems that would be really tight. Can't remember if you mentioned that before. Banks:confused: Lots of members unhappy with them.

Hey mtrprtr hadn't seen any post from you for awhile, thought they had transferred you. Was at Blue Mesa for a couple of weeks in early Sept. I usually come and go by North pass and skip Monarch but then I am heading south. Had to have all the rear end Bearings replaced at Espanola N. M. on the way up. All were badly pitted, bearings , cones and race. Had put synthetic in but damage probably was already done. no idea what could have caused your problem. Bob

Bob,

What kind of synthetic did you have in it? I just replaced mine with Eaton and I'm having problems with the limited slip chattering. Put in the additive and all was well for a couple of days then it started. Will need to change again now:mad: Got the gear lube at the local truck repair shop but guess my truck isn't big enough for the big rig stuff:D

Sorry I missed you. Was out of town pretty much the whole month of August. Back now and hopefully will have time to get some work done on my truck. Sorry to hear about the bearings. I am trying to make my 70 live as long as possible behind the Cummins. Oh well, I guess if I blow it up it will give me a good excuse to stick an 80 in it. :D

Paccool

Stan, I put the synthetic in 6/2000 after reading the article about the Jayco co. My truck had about 115k miles at the time. The only kind I could find where I live was Mobile 1. I dont think the synthetic had anything to do with the brgs. , they were probably pitted when I changed it. The Fluid was not low and had no water in it ,no rust was evident. Must have been low on lube or had some moisture in it before I got It. Looking back at repair records right rear wheel seal was replaced at 27k , no other indication. Hope your turns out o. k. Bob
