I crawled under my truck to let the oil out and saw the hose from the vacum switch on the front axle hanging down. It is a 1/4inch I. D. hose and I am sure that it is the vacum source for the front axle engagement. The hose was worn down, but was still about 2 ft. long. I looked for 30 minutes and can not find the other end of the hose. I need to take a trip in the morning and wonder if It will hurt any thing to run with it off. I cut the lower end and plugged it with a bolt. I need help finding the other end ot the hose and what length to buy for replacement.

Follow the line from the transfer case junction block. This is on the top of the transfer case on the left side of vehicle. I think part of it is hard-lined at the transmission crossmember? This should lead you to the danglin' end. You could try shifting into 4 wheel drive and follow the vacuum sound maybe? Shouldn't hurt to drive it in 2 wheel drive (stay out of the DEEP mud ;) ). Someone may chime in with exact location.

If the hose is 1/4 I. D. it is too large for the CAD vacuum. It sounds like the hose for the front axle breather vent. It comes out of the CAD and goes outside if the frame and ends up under the engine air filter.

I think Bob may be right. 1/4" sounded big to me too, but I thought maybe my memory or your estimate could be a little bit off. That would make sense why you couldn't find the matching end - there isn't one. Can still drive with it, but may want to take the bolt out and tie-wrap it so the end of the hose points down until you fix it. With it plugged it may try to squeeze a little fluid past one of the seals as it heats up. Not a big deal either way if you address it fairly soon.
