What do I need to do? We where setting the timing and tabbing the KDP and we made a stupid mistake and broke off the timming pin. The problem is that we can't find the little piece is no where to be found. We drained the oil pan, blew compressed air down in the pan and can't find the piece of the pin anywhere. Do we need to pull the oil pan?? What do we do???? Thanks Brian

I'm with Jay, read somewhere recently tip of timing pin is plastic.

If it fell in the gears it will get chewed up, but more than likely fell on ledge and will end up in oil pan.

If I did this, I would try to see if the pin is still in the gear. You will need to get it out if it is so the new pin will work when you put it in. Pull the timing pin assembly and try to look at the back side of the gear through the hole with a mirror. Rotate the gear like you did when trying to find the hole. If you can see the hole you should be able to tell is the tip of the pin is still in the hole. If so, pull out with a sharp probe or tweezers.

Now, having said this, I can't say for sure if you can get a good angle to see with a mirror or if the hole is large enough to do this. This is just a thought.

I can imagine the feeling when you did this! Sounds like something I would do:)

I broke mine off a long time ago and have done nothing. Hope you had the foresight to mark your balancer so you'll know where TDC is for valve adjustments, etc.
