Friends 95 is Fluctuating Over 200 rpm's up and down @ idle during cold start ups. Any thoughts on what it could be?? It lasts for about 2 mins tops then smoothes out. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

His grid heater is probably cycling on and off causing a load on a engine that is idling too low. If it is an auto the idle should be set to 700 in drive with the AC on.

fluctuation

yep. prolly the grid heaters cycling. when they come on, adds load to the alternator, thus the drop in rpm.

How do you adjust the low idle? My truck is doing the same thing. Has always dimmed the lights, but never changed the idle.

Look at the linkage at the back of the pump. There is a 10mm bolt (head) and lock nut. Loosen the lock nut and adjust the bolt.

Thanks everyone, I will let him know that it's probably his grid heater and make sure he doesn't have anyother symtoms
