Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) help immediately!!

Ok I tried to do the VP-44 test tonight and the truck just cranked and cranked. This means that the VP-44 is dead according to the thread "testing the VP-44" that is still on current page in this forum. Now after testing I hooked the FPCM back up and truck still won't start :{ I take it my VP is so far gone that the truck won't run again until it gets a new one installed? This really sucks I do have another truck to run until I get this one fixed (Dad's old 93 4x4 auto Cummins) but I want it back a. s. a. p. Please help let me know if I am right on this diagnosis or not. Thanks for any help, Dan

first test is do you have guages???



first second test --change fuel filter



second open the water in fuel bleed line on the filter and have someone crank the engine over---does it spew fuel like no tomorrow--if not your lift pump is dead---change it before you do anything else



if it does spew fuel then loosen 3, 4 & 5 injector lines at the head and have a friend crank it again--is there fuel coming out of the of the loosened fittings???? if there is tighten lines and crank it for a few seconds--10-15---stopo and do it again--may take 5 times and then it should start----if you have no fuel at the lines then the VP is toast---wouldn't hurt to do it a couple of times to be sure... . chris

It's Toast

I tried everything from bleeding lines to hitting it with a hammer and still no go so I will haul the truck to the dealer monday and order a new injection pump for it then also. I know i could probably change it myself but will feel better knowing the dealer did it plus I get a preferred customer price on it because we are always buying parts for one of the four trucks at one point or another. I am getting it for @$1100 and total will be near $1600 on truck and running so I am just going with them. Thanks for all help I appreciate it very much
