The world's dumbest lawsuit...

I need some assistance in finding a wooden swingset for my daughter. Her birthday is in July and the wife and I would like to purcase one for her.

We looked at the new sets but, they want $1500 for a new one. The price range is a little steep. I looked at the ones you build from home depot and they didn't look like a great set up.

If anyone know anybody selling a used set please e-mail me or call me at work (800) 447-1857.

Thanks in advance
Frank

A few years ago, Eagle Hardware (Same as Lowes) used to sell kits for wooden playsets. Although they were somewhat expensive, I know they weren't anything 1500 for a swing set. IT was more like 1500 for an entire small gym set.

I don't know what they are now, or even if they still do sell them. I do know that the local lumber place has DIY plans to build a wide variety of backyard playtoys. None of them are particularly difficult or expensive to build. At most, you needed a saw, drill, and normal mechanical hand tools.

They all use 6x6 lumber buried in the ground to accomplish the foundation and anchoring and much of the rest was 2x4, 2x6 and / or 2x8 lumber.

I made a heavy duty swing set for my buddie's kids a while back out of 1 1/2" pipe, no welding just bolts. It just required a triangular piece of plate with a hole in it for the cross pipe bolted to the top of the two A frames. The swing seats and chain came from Eagle hardware, the whole thing cost about $80 and took around 4 hours to build. It is much heavier duty than the cheap junk sold in stores, should last a few lifetimes and is strong enough to double as an engine hoist.

Last fall, Wife came up with idea we build a swing set-fort-play station for twin 7 year old grandsons for Christmas.
About $500. for materials later (not counting lots of stuff from home such as a damaged awning fabric from fiver for top and lots of cedar lumber from trees I had milled), they have a 12' high 14' long and 7' wide two story play area with horses made from old tires for swings, AND-----they even used it OH say 3 or 4 times! I figure it cost me about $50 each per hour plus about 20 hours work for each hour they played on it.
The joys of being a grand parent!!!
