I've got a buddy with troubles on the road from Oklahoma City, seems he has a knock in his truck and doesn't appear to be valvetrain related, if there is anyone that could steer him in the right direction it would be appriciated as he's headed to the import race in Pheonix. If there is someone that wants or needs to call him his name is Chuck Seitsinger and his number is 405-205-7881(cell) and if you can't get him call me at 405-250-0407 and I'll get him the message.

Thanks, Jim

Jim,

Could we get some more details about the truck?

If the truck is bombed, could he have burned a piston? Possible main bering going? Rapping Rod? Something in the transmission?

How big/loud of a knock? Any more detail as to where it is coming from? Is it loosing any oil? How many miles/hours on the engine? What is the application/daily load?

It is possible to be a blown engine or could be as simple as a nail in the tire that he is hearing while driving.

The truck is a 97" 5 Speed, hx-35, 370's, 10 plate, SBC, and yes it's turned up... ... guess who tuned it. He's pulling a 45ft enclosed trailer and it is about 15K or so(trailer) loaded. The Noise is more on the top than the bottom, I heard it via cell phone and it sounds more like a rocker, bad push rod but he says it all looked fine with it running and the covers off.

I guess (now after some sleep) I'm looking more for a number to a shop or a person that might be able to help him out if he needs it... ..... I was thinking about Fred Swanson but I can remember if he's close.

Might have bent a pushrod--they can only bend so far before they rub.

OTOH, he is really risking the engine from ultra high egt's.

#10+370s with a little HX35, pulling a 45 ft trailer = 1800 deg+ maybe over 2000 deg. even "trying" to be good. Bought lots of fuel and no air. Might be time to pay the piper :(

Jim, I just got off the phone w/ him. Mabe a bad injector. He is gonna try swapping them around and see if it moves the noise. Im going to look around and see if I can get him some different injectors. If that's what it is. He is gonna give me a call in the morning.

A bad injector (at least one that is not firing) will produce an engine that has a very lumpy run (like it has a wild cam). It has its own unique sound, hopefully it is something simple such as a bad injector.

In order of posts: Joe D. he has to drive it with his right foot as I told him no more than 1200 degrees towing and he has stayed with that... ... . said he watched all the gauges like a hawk! This is not his normal towing truck but he's having to use it.

Travis I talked him through the injector check and it was #6 as you could loosen the line with it running and it would stop knocking, he then pulled it and I talked him through tearing it apart and back together, the noise is still there, he then dollied the trailer off and drove it, said the power was not down as all, this morning he's going to swap 1 and 6 and see if it follows then call you if need be.

Thanks, Jim
