Some Questions.

1. Track bar hole on drivers side off by 1/2 inch, What is the easy way to

align the hole ?

2. Where the tapered bushing goes, is the bracket supposed to fit flush.

or against tapered bushing? Also, I notice the Support is not completely flat...

3. I have a large silver cylinder( looks like a spacer ) with a hole through it. What is it, where does it go? ( it's not on the instructions )

4. Also 2 extra bolts, I know there is 1 extra, ? Whats the 2nd 1 for.

5. The down bolt through the frame, It is cocked, Is this Ok???

1: If you lift the truck by the frame the axle will shift easily. If you don't have two jacks to do this you can lift one side or the other to push the axle into alignment.

2: I'm not familiar with the SS stuff but the bushing is for the frame end of the track bar as the new unit probably has a straight shaft and is not tapered fit.

3: I just realised that you are using a 3rd gen trac-bar conversion and every thing I wrote is useless. At least I gave you a bump to the top. :) Mike

Just a guess...

OK, I helped put in a SSI kit in a few years ago. Now I need to put one in my truck. So here it goes:

1, The Tapered bushing goes into the hole that the Tapered pin for the OEM track bar went.

2, I think and belive, The Alumiuim Cylinder goes thru the frame to back up the bracket. The rub is that you have to use a hole saw from the bottom with a 90 degree motor to drill it out.

3, Is the extra bolt is the same length as the Aluminuim Cylinder? Then, that is were it goes.

4, Leave all the bolts loose until you get all the bolts started and everything is lined up.

Does anyone know what gets torqued to 250'# ? Moose

It's been a year or more since I installed mine, but I know I had two bolts left over. As I recall, the instructions weren't very concise. The bolt that goes down through the cross member was also crooked on mine and didn't pose a problem. I don't seem to remember needing to use the tapered bushing on mine either. I seem to remember that the bushing and one of the extra bolts was only used if the bolt didn't fit snugly through the hole where the track bar bolted to the frame. If the bolt didn't fit snugly, you had to use the bushing and slightly smaller(if I remember correctly) bolt. I will go and check in my garage later, I still have the parts I didn't use on the shelf. I will also check the website as I seem to remember the instructions there. If you have already gotten this figured out, sorry to ramble on.

Well it's in, Steel cylinder & 1 extra bolt was for relocating the Steering Damper. Which I did not do, Seems to be enough clearance...

The other extra bolt is for the vertical position, Different Dim on
different years... They give you 2 bolts...

I did notice that the vertical bolt head is VERY close to the steering shaft. Max 1/2 inch clearance, not sure I like this...

Also the Driver side track bar bolt did not match supplied Nut, Trip to ACE. .

There was a weld at the tapered bushing attach point, Instructions are to grind it flat, I did not like the idea of grinding
off the weld. Installed a fender washer with hole drilled to
go around bushing, Bracket is flat to the casting now... .

REALLY Tightened the steering. But off center, Aligned with
adjustment , but that moved steering box off center. ??
Have to figure out the steering .

Thanks all for replies...

I'm glad you got it. It's amazing how much a year can fuzzy your memory. I only had one left over bolt and the bushing for moving the steering stabilizer, which I did not do either.

crwilliams: is your Stabilizer mounted next to and a little below the track bar?, No clearance problems I presume.

Another problem: The Track Bar , Drivers side. Where the track bar
install into the bracket, The opening in the bracket is not large
enough. The track bar 'eye' is rubbing the bracket. When the
bolt is tightened, the outside radius of the bar is forced into the opening in the bracket,

? Take it down again, Have to decide which unit to

I believe so. I know there were two attachment methods for the stabilizer, which I believe was 94-97 and 98-02, but that could easily be wrong. Mine is a 98, not sure why my signature is not showing up, and the stabilizer mounts to the axle on the passenger side, and to the tie rod near the diff. cover. There are no clearance problems.

On the second problem, you may need to post a pic of where it is hitting. I don't believe mine has any issues at all. I am using the adjustable bar. Are you using a stock 3rd gen bar? That may make a difference I suppose. I can post some pics of mine later today if it would help.

CRwilliams, Thanks, I'll try to get a picture tomorrow morning.
I'll probably pull it down in the morning. . Getting good at it now... . ( I might see if a washer will fit, to move the track bar forward on the bolt... )

I think the hoop end of the bar may be thicker if you are using a stock 3rd gen bar. I used their adjustable bar and it is not a problem on mine.
