Checked in the service manual for you. All it says is at cold temps the resistance will be high,as the temp increases the resistance will decrease,no values are given.

Unplug it and jump across the 2 terminals with a jumper wire, then turn on the key,it should put the wait to start light on if the sensor is bad. Check the relay and connections on the drivers fender, they can corrode or get loose over time and vibration, and the high amperage draw has a way of testing any connections limits.

John, I am not for sure I understand how exactly you are telling me to check the sensor. Could you or someone else please be a little more specific. Thank You

Caleb,
As per 96 Service Manual, disconnect wiring connector to Intake temp sensor.
"Test the resistance of the sensor with ans input impedance(digital) volt-ohmmeter. The (as resistance measured across the sesnor terminals) should be less than 1340 ohms with engine warm" If engine is cold they the ohms reading would be less.
You can also check resistance of wire harness btween PCM and Intake temp sensor. From PCM connector terminal to A-15(I think this would be power supply for sensor) and A-4(sensor return) to respected sensor connector terminal , more than 1 ohm means there is problem with wires/connectors.
1340 ohms = 176 F This is temp inside of manifold, so ohms reading should be less.

There is chart in manual with temps from -40 F to 248 f with corresponding ohms(resistance Min-Max for each temp).

Try putting meat/candy thermometer (with probe) in sensor hole(remove sensor) to find out tempature of inside manifold. If temp is lower than 59 F sensor should send info to PCM which then should turn on "wait to start" light and heater relays.

Hope this helps you some.
