When I bought my truck(used, NOT a Dodge dealer) the dealer told me that they had just changed the oil. The little sticker on the window say's 10w30 and it's Castrol. They did use a Wix filter. I've always used Castrol GTX in my gassers with no problem. I know the weight's not right. Could this be affecting my gas millage? Concerned, Jim.

I would change the oil ASAP. The oil is not designed for diesel application. This is the problem with unknowledgable places, they either don't realize (or don't care) diesel's need an oil specially formulated for diesel use. Just because an oil is "good enough" for gassers does not mean it's ok for diesel use.

If you want my opinion, stay away from this "dealer" in the future. If they are not smart enough the use the correct oil, then it's probably a good reflection of everything they do.

PS: That Castrol stuff in your Cummins will be affecting more than just your mileage, if left in long enough.

I agree, get it out of there immediatley. You may want to call them and ask them if that is what they really used too. A gas station i used to work at had oil change stickers with the Valvoline logo on them yet we were using Texaco oil.

If manual came with truck the oil specifications are listed in it.

If you really have castol 10w-30 in there get it out quick. Damage to engine could occur!

Castrol oils are rated for very lite duty diesels like vw's... not heavy duty engines like Cummins, Internationals( power strokes)... .

Oil & Dealers Double Duh

When I first got mine home (5/31) I checked the oil it was high  I drained it off to the correct level the next morning. I just changed it today in prep for the Yellowstone expidition. I went to the local Cummins place and picked up a case (4 gals) of the Valvoline Blue 15w40 & filter. It's spec'd for Cummins and says it on the box, a bit pricy though, $42 with the filter. It's worth the piece of mind though. I was rather disapointed with the "Fleet" filter I was given. Since I'll be changing the oil when we get home in two weeks and probably 5k miles I guess it's OK. What filter are you going to use?

I had to look when I saw you had replied

Again, Thanks! So the fleetgard is top notch filter. Should have known that Cummins wouldn't give me a bummer. I just figured it would have their logo on it? Really going to sleep now zzzzzzzzzz
