My truck is a 2002 Ram 2500 Quad Cab 4x4. I have Firestone airbags to help with the overload, but this really increases the sway when pumped up. I have a 1” sway bar from the factory. Will a Hellwig 1 1/8” sway bar make much difference? How about the Roadmaster Active suspension system? Can they be installed under the airbags or are they good enough without the airbags?

Thanks for looking.

The roadmasters will not work with the airbags on,a bigger sway bar will help. Have you upgraded the shocks yet?

Bob

Yes, I installed Bilstiens. Not sure if they are enough. One thing I am worried about is the ride quality with no weight in the back. Hellrig Sway bars are 1 1/8 " in diameter and the Roadmasters are 1 1/4".

BTW, I would like the best stability I can get. Would the Roadmasters be better than the Air bags?

Yes, I was talking about the active suspension... . at first. :)

But I do not want to unistall my air bag system and compressor unless I can find a significantly better system to handle a large camper.

So, which would be best in your opinion. To keep the air bags and upgrade the sway bar, or get rid of the air bags and install an active suspension system by Roadmaster?

My '99 suffered from inadequate dampening until Sean Lorenz volunteered to revalve my Bilstein 7100's. Problem solved. You might call Bilstein or reputable offroad shops for suggestions or contact Sean Lorenz. He might have the product for you or a suggestion.

Thanks BajaBob

I may try that. BTW, did you notice any change in ride after the revalving of the shocks?

Yes. It was a bit stiffer but no more constant sway and emergency lane changes didn't have the pucker factor. The front bilstein's were adequate. I'd contact Sean and see if he offers a product for your 2nd gen. He can have Sway-a-Ways custom valved at the factory for your application. www.lorenzindustries.com

I had the active suspension on my 94 for a few years but I don't think it is enough for a camper. I just had a glass shell and the rear of my truck sat a lil low due to my upgraded front suspension. I have some awesome 3" king shocks from Carli suspension on my 05 and they totally eliminated any sway from fast transient movement.

You might want to give sage a call he has many options for the 2nd gen trucks,as well as the 3rd.

Thanks, I am in the process of writing something to Sean at LORENZ INDUSTRIES. I may as well paste it to everyone. Thanks!

Any more ideas?

Carli

Carli's definitely another option. Good guy with some excellent high end offerings. He'll work with you. With that Big Lance you need all the dampening you can get. I added an exhaust brake to my '99 for braking assistance. Wish I'd ordered it on my new one now. Brakes are super on the '07 but that exhaust brake is in a class by itself when you're carrying the weight on your back. Trailers help you stop that weight with their own binders.
