Howdy 12valvers,,,

OK-- here is the problem, My brothers truck 96 215HP 160,000 miles, had a ticking noise when the came home the other day. We got to looking at it and the rubber return line by the back of the motor was pulsing so bad that it was jumping around!!!!!

So we thought that it was the overflow valve-- took it off and tested it with air, it would pop of at 27psi, so we tought that it was alright. Then we proceded to tear into the lift pump. We go it apart and the damn spring was broke!!

We went to town and got a new lift pump. Came home and put it on, primed it, and she finaly fired up after about 300 presses on that freeken little rubber button. Ran fine and test drive, and no more tick other than the sound of the overflow valve.

So, He left on monday and he said that after about 30 miles he lost alot of power all of a sudden like. Was getting 25psi boost and now only 16psi!!!!! And the return line is jumping around again.

Had him check intercooler hosed and they were fine, he isn't getting any black smoke. The fuel filter is brand new and none of the lines are pluged. Sound to me like he isn't getting enough fuel. Could he have got a bad pump?? Doesn't have a fuel press gauge to measure it but he said that you can still hear fuel going through the overflow valve.

What Should he try next?????

Thanks Clint

The return fuel valve could be stuck wide open.

What is his rpm's doing? Are they running where they usually do?

Did he/you see any fuel leakage at return or supply lines?

The delivery valves tend to tick when dirty.
