I have a 2001 2500 24v 5.9 2wd. Was throwing a MAP code. Out of no where the truck acted like it lost power. Now it is stuck in first gear and won't shift outta it or go above 2 000 rpms or 18mph. I changed the map sensor and now I have a low map sensor voltage code. I'm pumping the right volts to everything. Not really sure what's going on with it and what sensors to start knocking out. Really not wanting to play the guessing game with how much sensors cost.

Can you tell us the code number? Did it "throw the code" more than once? And, specifically did it go into limp mode when it threw the code? or did it drive okay for awhile and then go into limp mode?

I assume you have an automatic transmission because you said that it won't come out of first gear. Did you try to manually shift it into second gear? If it goes into second at least you would gain a little speed while in the limp mode.

If you can provide more detail regarding the sequence of events and more information about your truck (mileage, mods, previous problems, etc.) then we can offer some assistance that might be helpful... and we do want to help.

Yes it's a 2wd. I can't remember the code numbers off the top of my head I'll run the smarty on it again tomorrow. But I just bought the truck last night. Guy told me it needed map sensor, tb sensor , and a trans sensor. I drove it an hour home last night with out any problems, drove it this morning and no problems . This evening I was driving and I lost power and it wouldn't shift, I hit a bump and the power came back. After I shut it off and got back in later is when the problem started and wouldn't shift outta first gear at all . I've tried manually shifting to second first and back to drive and it didn't make a difference. I put the new map sensor on and now the only code it's throwing is map sensor voltage too low. Theread is a broken sensor hanging from under the transmission, I'm not too sure which one it is yet, but it was that way when I bought it and it didn't effect the truck when I drove it home so I didn't think that would be the problem. It has high milage but the previous owner claims he had the top end of the motor reworked. It all seems stock to me, he had the settings in the smarty all set to stock and default. He did eliminate the converter and went to a 5 inch pipe.

Check all connections make sure their tight, ecm,pcm,trans,grounds,... you can even try spaying with contact cleaner. The 24 valves 2nd gen have throttle position sensor (I think that's what it is called that can mess up shifting, the governor and the pressure sensor or something mechanically could be wrong.

Check oil sensor it is on same circuit as map sensor. Also check big connection on fire wall, the one with white bale, the bale must be to the left.

"I hit a bump and the power came back." I would look closely at all the connections and clean all the grounds. Computer controlled systems are very sensitive to voltage and floating grounds. Some sensors work on .5 volts.
