Help, I just changed my fuel filter and found out my lift pump is dead and the VP-44 has been sucking the fuel all the time. Well its Saturday so no D/C parts departments are open, no local stores have lift pumps, and I NEED my truck to get to work on Monday. Is there any way to get my truck to run again without buying a new lift pump?

One Idea, remove the lift pump from the system (to reduce the blockage it causes), fill the fuel tank clear up and don't drive very hard. The VP44 will "suck" enough to get you through this emergency and to the parts store. I would not drive any farther than necessary. Perhaps a buddy can give you a lift monday so you don't have to drive.

The above is risky for the long term life of the VP44.

Have to agree with Steve... Depending on how long the lift pump has been out, you can damage the VP44. It will suck fuel, but it has its limitations. The pump should be under warranty if you are under 100,000 miles, but if you have to buy it on your own, get it from a Cummins dealer... They are under half the cost of the dealer part... After you get it fixed... get a fuel pressure gauge installed so you don't have to go through this again... ;)
