Third Gen Dually Rim Question

I have searched on the stupid HORN honk thing and found now answers, the way I get out of this truck, it honks every time, my truck did it today and i about made a lady drop her baby, I also have multiple trailers and this is a PAIN.

THIS IS BS AND HAS TO GO. The dealer did it and did not tell me, they WONT undo it, I called Chrysler, they said I have to talk to the NHTSA?

I know I can rewire the horns, but knowing dodge they will void my warranty, has anyone come up with ANYTHING.

I declined to have mine done but had to sign a release of liability. I'm sure they can undo it if you sign something saying they're not responsible if something happens. Try another dealer.

It's a reflash - can't be undone, and any replacement computer from Mopar will already have it. If you had the recall done, either knowingly or unknowingly, you're stuck with it. The only known getarounds are to "trick" the system into thinking your door is always closed.

I'm curious: How is it that when you "get out of the truck", your horn honks? Do you leave it in gear and running when you get out?

Buckle the driver's seatbelt as I understand that keeps the horn from honking if the truck is running with the door open. When you pop back in to adjust your truck when parking or hitching a trailer, just leave the seatbelt buckled behind you.

Instead of this, just go to a junk yard and find a buckle for the same year model truck(maybe 5 bucks) and just keep it handy and like Mark said leave it buckled while you are moving around to hook up.

Or put a jumper across the wires that go to the seatbelt sensor in the female part of the seatbelt, you'll never have to mess with it again.

I've not done a lot of testing, but my 05 with the recall seems to act differently that one 06 people are reporting. I've tried clicking the e-brake or fastening the seatbelt, and it doesn't seem to help (but I need to prove this definitevely.

I also know what he means by it does it all the time. I've put it in park and gotten out quickly a few times and the small roll while it settles in park is enough to set it off if you open the door during that time.

Yes, very annoying.

Ignore my horrible typing. But I usually grab for the door, put it in park at the same time and the stupid truck honks EVERYTIME, I HATE IT. It is almost enough for me to sell the truck. I am going to short the seatbelt wire to see if that works, I dont think it will, if not i am going to re-wire the horns. THIS IS BY FAR THE STUPIDEST thing I have seen in my life, and I have seen a lot of stupid things.

Someone at Dodge should be shot for this. MOST DIESELS ARE WORK TRUCKS, THIS IS INSANE. I am so tired of this probem, I have reached my end.

Thanks

Paul

Azhuskcarr, I am going to, thanks. I like you sig, "it's a dry heat in AZ", well it is a WET heat in Oklahoma, this 106 crap is getting OLD.

If you are not a horn user, just un-plug the horn. I have a stick shift so I do not believe I have the horn problem. I sometimes plug the center seat belt in when I'm just driving around town so I don't have to listen to the belt chime, it works doing that, so it would more than likely work for the horn. I certainly would not want that nuisance. I wonder if all the other auto makers have this installed?

Open the door while in Drive, then shift to Park. Also found that it does not go off if I set the parking brake.

Thank God for Dealer Greed

I had my truck at the dealer earlier this year for some regular maintanence while I was on the road visiting relatives. Thought while I'm here have them do the reflash, thank goodness they didn't do it. They pulled me aside and actually wanted to charge me $ 40 to remove my Sirus radio that I had mounted in the way of removing the radio to do the flash. Now that I've heard more about this POS dealer " safety" recall I'm glad I didn't give in to dealer greed. .

Dealer has nothing to do with it. If you want to gripe, aim your frustration at Auburn Hills - recalls are from manufacturers. A dealer is not reimbursed for time/labor to move your accessories out of the way to get to a recall or warranty repair. The manufacturer determines the repair to be on a completely stock vehicle.

And I thought my seatbelt dinger was annoying!!!! I fixed that by switching the entire female end with the one for the center seat. My center seatbelt has been plugged into what used to be the drivers recepticle for over two years. No ding, no light. It required some drilling 'cause the mounting holes for the two are different. 2 probs with that fix, I can't move my seat all the way forward w/o unplugging wires accidentally, current drivers recepticle isn't as stiff/long as the first one, but it still works.

Same "fix" might help with horn honk.
