Alright guys, I have officially grenaded my 48re I believe. I’ve got a juice/ attitude and have had so for about 23K miles. I’ve got 30K now, and am getting a frequent 2-3% slip upon 4th gear lockup. Previously, the truck would only show 2-4% on setting 4-5 but now does it on stock. For the last two months I’ve left the truck on the stock setting, to pro-long deciding which transmission to get? I am totally confused DTT, ATS, etc... I want the most bullet-prof unit I can get. Basically I want “overbuilt” for my application. The only major mod I have is a Juice/Attitude and might add 100 hp injectors or something similar later?? Can you all recommend the best aftermarket transmission to buy?

Thanks in advance

You have me worried, I have the same setup, but I don't pay attention to that though.

I know you can get the ATS kit 48RE04. 5-05assembly-6-4wd:

comes w/ the 5star viscus clutch drive TQ, billet input/intermediate/output shafts, billet flexplate, ATS co-pilot, all ready to go. I bet you won't blow that one up, I hope!

They list it at $7681 +$1200 core charge.

I haven't looked into the other brands yet, but if I went ATS that's what I'd get. I've always heard good things about ATS but haven't had to do any transmission stuff, (yet?)

Hope that gives you something to base/compare to.

Thanks for the info, good stuff there. Yeah it's gotten to be a habbit, I always have to check now, because I know when it's going to do it, know what I mean?

i think that ats, dtt, all makes a nice transmission but the race transmission we have has seen well over 1200HP with no back talk!!! the same transmission that made 1200hp is still in the truck as a daily driver!! 100+k miles on it so far, just regular oil changesw/ amsoil ATF. prices are very competitive as well, but like i said all the companys make good trannys but the choise is up to you. !! good luck :-laf

Is that TRANS or CONVERTER slip?

Do your homework. If converter is slipping it likely will only get worse while contaminating the rest of the trans. My choice is DTT. Don't want to start a war.

Got a dyno sheet for that 1200 HP? How about bringing it up to the Mason Dixon Turbo Diesel Club's Spring Fling on April 29th? I would love to see it on the dyno.

Well nothing is impossible..... But I am suspect of the HP claim, there aren't many daily driver 800+ HP trucks yet you say your is over 1200 RWHP. Why does it need a trailer, you stated that it is a daily driver.

if you go back and look at the first post you will see that the transmission is still in opperation not the truck!! my post was on the quality of our transmission not the truck, which is now a test mule dragster!!, there working on cp3 combos now for future release to the public. and yes the transmission has seen more HP than that, but thats another story in itself. thanks :-laf

to get back on topic i am at 491 hp and am very pleased with my ATS setup. I made the mistake of buying the VB kit and not the tested built one by ATS and had shifting problems. Clint and Dave went out of there way explaining to me things to do before buying any new parts. I ended up getting a built VB from them and they helped on the cost since i already had there kit installed by a local trans shop. They have my business from now on as well as me telling of the excellent customer service.

never found the problems? pm me with the problems you were seeing please. a v-b mod is very simple process. drilling small hole(in the right place) in the unit will give you very fast lockup.

DTT-Swanson style

I wish I could afford a beefy transmission so I could play all I want and not have to worry!

Try giving Fred Swanson a call. He's a top notch DTT installer and quite reasonable. Good guy and fairly close to you in Phoenix area. # 623-910-9575 He takes Visa etc. :D Pay it off later.
