I was originally sold on a S+B intake but then I realized that it didn't replace all of the air intake tubing to the turbo. I still might get the S+B intake but I am just not sure. I am also considering the following:

K&N ( I know they are inferior in some peoples minds)

AEM Brute Force ( I don't plan on making enough Power for the Workhorse)

I will not buy another AFE due to oil running down my fenderwells after every rain and having to oil and reclean evry time there is a thunderstorm.

Do you guys have any other suggestions preferrably an intake that will replace all of the intake tubing>?

The S&B replaces all the intake except the lower elbow onto the turbo. My Coworker just purchased his off ebay for 170 shipped which is hard to beat or argue with.

Fitment seeemed ok, it only mounts with the two mounted holes next to the battery tray(it will move if pushed on). Turbo whitsle is increased and better throttle repsonse.

I was going to order one for my truck b/c I like the idea of the mostly closed intake box. After seeing the product I am going to stick with my BD Stainless Intake and a gutted stock baffle. I added a AFE pg7 and a prefilter. :)

To each there own.

what is the BD SS intake and where can I get it?

With all the options out there I would not go with a BD Intake. It is a touch exspensive. My truck already had it installed with BD's Remote Exhaust Brake. It is a qaulity peice and Stainless but basicaly the same as a AFE stage one. I had a Cool Blue Hose but it would not fit with the BD cool air box, I did not want to trim it so i gave it to a freind.

WHatever you do I would use a AFE PG7 Filter no matter what.

i just ordered an s&b i do like the fact that it is a closed box which hopefully will keep some of the engine heat out i am glad to hear increased turbo noise though

I have a K&N fipk and I like it..... It seems to flow very well. . I also have the prefilter on it... There are a few who bash on the K&N but before my diesel all I knew was K&N they have been building intake kits for many many years and I would think they know there stuff... .

If you are not going to do anything else to the motor then stick with the stock unit, we flow benched a stock one and you can get 1000cfm to flow thru it. Plus paper is better. Just my 2 cts.

I believe you were way overoiling the aFe. If you have their cone style and put a prefilter sock over it, it works fine. Another good intake is the Scotty.

But stock just doesn't look cool~!

I have a K&N on my truck and really liked it until the filter wore a hole through my AC line. One of the clamps must have loosened up and it was rubbing a line just enough to ware a pin hole in it and I lost all my freon. :{ I had to take and make another bracket off of the fender to hold it away from the ac line. What ever brand you choose make sure it is away from everything so that it does not rub on anything.

Well, I ended up going with the AEM Brute Force with a dry filter!

No more oiling and just an occasional clean and wait for it to dry!

AMSOIL Nanofiber drop-ins or Nanofiber cone filters on either the factory intake tube or an aftermarket one. Lots of ways to make a Nanofiber work, and more affordable that most. Cleanable without wet washing or oil. They are engineered to be blown out with 20psi of shop air, and thrown back on. Takes 5 minutes to clean, and are a 4 year/100,000 mile air filter.

I read a really interesting article in a fall issue of diesel power magazine that in a comparison with the (i think)AFE, s&b, volant, and dead stock air box with stock paper element, stock torque tube, and silencer, that a max of 1 HP difference was achieved with the any of the aftermarket air intake systems, some even dropped the horsepower! I think the test mule was a 2005 CTD ram. Long story made short, the stock airbox is a great piece! I modded mine with the TDR article homemade ram air and went with the amsoil EA drop in filter(stock replacement) and put in a homemade gutted torque tube out of sched. 80 pvc pipe couplings. The turbo is a bit louder and the throttle response is a bit better it seems. I am getting 23 mpg at 60-65 mph empty, so maybe it helps. maybe the aftermarket intakes actually work with high flow exhausts and bigger turbos, but the numbers did not lie. It seems maybe the "adds 19 hp garunteed" ads or something like it for bone stock dodge CTD may be somewhat false, like, 95% false!

BBowers

I read a similar article. On my 03 I did not get an intake or gauges until after I had the Edge EZ. Being egged on by a friend as soon as I got the EZ I put it on level4 and was kinda disappointed.

So, I ordered gauges and an AFE stage1. The AFE woke the truck up some.

Put a 4" Exhaust from the downpipe back and tha changed everything. Once the exhaust was on it was a completely different BEAST! She was fast. Throttle response was unbelievable Oo.

So, basically I said all of that to say,

I beliive the intake and exhaust probaly will not do much for a stock truck. But add a chip or some injectors and that is when they will shine.

Plus that polished intake will so coooL  I will get all the hot chicks! ( Well the one I married anyway) :D

I'm happy with my Volant box. Replaces elbow and has hole for air scoop under bumper. I used pieces off my stock elbow to run the ram air down from the box to to under the bumper.
