I have on 01, 6 speed with 62k on it. Have used the truck mostly for pulling 5th wheel trailers. (currently have an 06 34' Montana @ 14k pounds) Getting ready to change fluids in the diff's, & transmission. (May be a little overdue) Going to take a long trip this spring ending up in Alaska mid summer so thought I better get this done. I have read many posts on the different oils etc. My shop man says I should go with what Dodge recommends. What say you ?

I look at recomendations as a guide , but then I measure where/who , is recomending , then I try to find facts so that I can make my own deicisions , heres a site should help info wize .
I prefure Amsoil products .

Amsoil products are great & way better than stock fluids..... just make sure that whatever you chose that you use the proper additives that are good for posi units etc. Always synthetic & you'll have no problems.

AMSOIL is superior by far. For the transmision it is recomended product# MTFQT Synthetic Synchromesh Transmission Fluid (5W-30). Good luck. I agree with cummins724 synthetics are the only way to go. Good luck.

I'd do synthetic oils and get the friction modifier from (unfortunately) the dealer - from what I've learned here the modifier they have works best. Can't speak first hand as I have a D70 peg leg. But, if you tow the syn oils are much better for lube and cooling.
