2001 Rollover + 1985 Crew Cab.. will it work

Bosch IP, WHERE TO GET and HOWTO REMOVE???

I have an 88 suburban that is about to get the big "C" conversion along with an Allison behind it. The Cummins is a 2000 out of a Sterling service truck (never been in or near a Dodge) and will be turned up as far as Cummins can get it without adding aftermarket products to start, but the Allison of choice, hasn't been chosen. I know very little about the Allison, as i have always had manual transmissions. I will have 37 inch tires on the truck with 4. 56 gears (if that matters). I am eventually looking for a gain of about 450-500 horses out of the burban. I have the choice of any Allison (series and options) i want, dad is a dealer, i just have to choose. I will not be drag racing the suburban or sled pulling or towing (except maybe the occasional bumper pull) as i have a pick-up for that. I do drive with a lead foot sometimes and like to play with the rice runners around town, but she'll mostly be a kick***** daily driver.

I'd like to hear what ya'll would recommend and why. As well as what possible upgrades and their pros and cons you can recommend since i'll have the transmission out before the transplant, making it easy.

Thank you in advance,

Help me pick out an allison ,please

Im not much of a automatic person my self behind deisels except

my jetta tdi .

How ever i think you might be limited to the 1000 series as they make a T-case that will bolt up to it that offers 4 hi and 4 low and 2 hi and 2 low

plus they have came up with a device to get the two units to comunicate .

But personaly i like the 545 and the 645 but these are not orginaly computer

controlled trannys . (545=5speeds & the 645+6speeds)

It depends on are you going divorced or married T-case ???

You might see if you can drive a allison to see if your going to like the way they drive ,if its the clutch pedal issue dont fret over it use the pu ones they fit fine

I know the fed-ex trucks in our area run the Cummins/Allison. I will try to find out what they are using. I would guess a 1000.

There's a thread by GMac about putting an Allison in a dodge. Do a search and check it out. Lots of good info on there.

There is an Allison with most everything needed on the DTR classifieds, I just saw it earlier today. I don't know anythng about them, or this one. I just happened to notice it.

I think a 5sp nv4500 in a suburban would be way cool.

i originally wanted a manual but i work in town and traffic is a pain in a manual and my other truck is a manual as well. this truck will see me through many many years, and i dont wanna be rowing gears, fighting kids in the back seat and everything else.

I think the autos my self eat horse power and are heavier

plus they take more money to repair when they break .

Only draw back to a manual is the traffic issue and bleeding the clutch /slave setup

Go with the 1000 series. It has the best gear selection mated with your gears and tire size. You have really any choice of t-case you want to run but it would take some mods. Don't talk to ATS because they have not made one work yet. A remotely built allison will walk over standard shift trannies all day long. It will take very little to make it stand up to 400-450hp. If you need more info feel free to ask.

If you have a good converter, it will put the power to the ground and you will have a quick truck with an auto. An auto isn't any heavier than a manual either. Doesn't a nv5600 weigh like 600lbs. in the truck and a allison with the converter is like 400lbs max.

i am sticking with the Allison and with research, the Allison 1000 6speed. i just need to decide what converter and other build up kits i am going to put in her, we are going to rebuilt the Ally before we put it in to hold what i want it to hold. as for Tcases, i haven't even started looking, researching them... .

I thought it was available in the Freighliner custom chassis or similar as 6speed with a software update?... .

last time i looked into this; they were having trouble with the interface between the engine computer and the trans computer along with some software problems. not sure if theres any truth to it or not but something about it going to reverse at highway speed.

when they work these out ill be intrested if i can make it fit.
