I changed my fuel filter 2 days ago and in the fuel that came out there were metal flakes. Not a lot but it still makes me nervous. Could this have something to do with the lift pump?

do you notice the truck running worse? i doubt that it is a problem, although it still should be a concern none the less, i would change the filter, drain the housing, and run the truck and see if you notice any problems.

Truck doesn't run any different. My main concern is the filter only had about 5 to 6,000 miles on it. There weren't a lot of flakes and they don't seem to stick to a magnetic screwdriver. I would just like to know were they came from. I am getting ready to go fishing in BC and don't need a breakdown.

How many miles on the fuel pump? Did you check your prefilter as well? I know Bio loves to clean your fuel system, mebe it cleaned the deposits off the fuel pump, which started more wear. I believe fuel is pumped in thru the middle of the filter, and out the holes. Where were the pieces of metal?

If the truck is still running fine, I wouldnt worry about it. The fuel filter is doin its job, filtering. heh (dunno about the pump tho, might be an idea to change it out)

good luck

My Freightliner had metal flakes in the bottom of canister (screw off top) they stuck to a magnet (Stopped by while mechanic was servicing truck).

This was when the truck was new.

Haven't notice any in my Dodge's fuel when I have drained the filter.

It is normal. That crap got pumped in when you fueled up. As long as it is in the bowl, and on the outside of the filter, it is OK.

Flakes were in the center of filter so it is doing it's job. Truck has 135,000 on it now that's why I was questioning lift pump. I just get scared when I see metal flakes in anything. Thanks for all your input I appreciate it.

didnt realize you were running b100 either, yea that definately could be part of your problem, b100 cleans everything in your fuel system, which is good, but dont be worried whn you find lots of "junk" in your filters.
