2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission HELP! My tail lights won't shut off (parking)

Came home this evening and noticed my '99 2500 parking tail lamps were on. Very odd. The switch light switch is off and the front marker lamps are off. Through on a trickle charger to keep the battery from draining.



Any ideas?

Update: Pulled 40A Trailer fuse

Started pulling fuses as I just could go to bed with this on my mind... The 40A trailer fuse in the main block was the only one that turned the lamps off. Must be a short in the wiring??? Fun, fun, fun...



Anyone else run into this before?

I had a wierd thing on my 01 the other day that prompted me to get a new truck... The dash was on like the key was on, hence my FASS was running and it drained the batteries overnight. . Turned the key on and off, no change. . only when I tried to start it, did it finally let go and turn off...

Fun thing when smart computer wired trucks go Dumb!. . lol

Love my new 09 with the Auto. . I am driving it part time like a Manual as I don't like it when it shifts up too high for a slow speed Limit road...

Are you sure the lights are the tail lights and not the brake lights? Your brake pedal may be hanging up (down, actually) if it is brake lights. Lift up on the brake pedal and see what happens.

If it is your brake lights, check out the brake light switch it may need adjusting also. Good Luck.

Another thought from out in leftfield . . . If it is the stoplamps staying lighted it could possibly be caused by a brake controller problem if pulling the 40amp trailer fuse cleared the lamps.

Almost every year of Dodge is wired differently. How about filling your signature or profile.

Found it...

Had a melted mess of wires in the Canopy. Evidently the installer 6 years ago pinched the wire for the canopy overhead light. Re-wiring correctly now! Thanks for the ideas!

I had the same exact thing happen to me. Replaced the brake switch with no results, figured out it was the brake controller. Actually pushed the manual slide in and out a time or two and that was the end of the brake lights staying on. I did end up replacing that controller.
