Recently, my Horton radiator fan suffered some damage. I got a replacement fan, but now I need a thin 1-7/8" wrench to get the fan clutch off. I had no luck at Sears or with the Mac Tools truck that delivers to the mechanics at work. I've been keeping an eye out for a Snap-On truck, but it seems like the only time I see them is when I'm driving the 18-wheeler, and I can't pull over. Anybody have a wrench I can borrow? If you're in the Seattle area, I'll pick it up. Or if you're across the country, I'll pay for the shipping both ways (I work for FedEx and get a discount). It has to be a thin wrench to get down in there, a regular wrench or a large crescent wrench would be too fat. I thought about making one myself, because it's a relatively low-torque operation, but I left my acetylene torch behind at my folks' house. Besides that, at this time I have no garage, work bench, vise, etc. Someday I will have the "ultimate garage", but in the meantime, I need to fix this. I'm driving around with the fuse removed so the fan won't engage, watching the gauge like a hawk. No problems so far, because it's not very hot here.
I feel lost without a garage and a workbench!
Thanks, Andy

Andy, if your search doesn't turn up anything, the NAPA store in town has the exact, special wrench you need hanging on the rack for $51. 49 + tax (part #3136 even though TDR issue 21 states that is a 1 7/16" wrench). I have not verified the part number myself however, a call to them said the previously stated part number is for a 1 7/8" wrench. Also, the Snap-On man stops by my favorite hang out tomorrow in the early afternoon. The price of the special wrench (Snap-On part #YA9521) is about the same as NAPA, which he has in stock. After looking at their catalog I'm wondering if you may also need their special 68 mm/76 mm crows foot (flat style) wrench???? This is Snap-On part #YA9527 which goes for a little over $30.

Hey Andy, I thought you would have had that taken care of by now. No big deal though, now that you are living in Western WA. you will only need your Horton fan once, maybe twice in a years time! LOL. Now windshield wipers, that's another story.....

Go down to your Harbor freight tool store and buy one for less than 5 bucks then use somebodys grinder and make it the exact thickness you need,it probably wont be a
wrench you will use very often.

Andy, if you haven,t found a wrench yet, send me your mailing address and I will send you something. Are you sure it's 1 7/8"? The nut on the fan clutch on 99 is shown as 23MM. bg

I think I read it here but a cheap wrench can be ground down to fit quite easily. I've got quite a few that are ground down for those 1 use applications. Unless you plan on using it a lot. Sorry don't have that size though

Thanks for the help guys, I got an e-mail from a man named Randy Hutton who works in a machine shop with a laser cutter, he's going to make one for me and for himself. Cool!
I put some calipers on the nut to get a measurement, and it comes out to 1-7/8" or whatever's the metric equivalent of that.
TerryG, I thought of the "grind down a cheap wrench" idea, but I don't have a grinder.
I'm telling you guys, for a gearhead like me, it SUCKS not having a garage!! I don't even have shelter from the rain unless I open the awning on my trailer and put the nose of the truck under it.
My truck is getting close to 50K miles. While I have the fan off, I figure that will be a good time to replace the serpentine belt. I also bought a weatherproof connector that I will put in-line somewhere so that the next time I have to remove the fan, I won't have a headache with the wiring.
Thanks again, Andy
