My friend is changing his fuel sender module in his tank. It rusted out. and is leaking fuel. He got the part, dropped the tank this weekend... wrong sender.

He says the dealers have no idea which one he needs. His has the 4-prong plug but the one they gave him is an 8-prong electrical plug. Dealer said look for the other pigtail tucked in the framerail but it's not there.

Can anybody help with the correct part number or even a unit that will fit this 1998 12V?

Thanks... truck is down

I did mine this winter & got the sending unit from the dealer , I'll give you the numbers that were on the invoice 4897668-AF modul kit 14067004 , hope this helps .

Do you mean the entire fuel module? The sending unit has two spade lug connectors on it. That's on the side of the fuel module in the tank.

Looks like Dick's numbers are good ones. The only problem is they only have new units, no remanufactured ones. Over $400

Can you purchase the sender seperately?

I was going to buy a reman but the parts guy said he has a lot of problems with them being returned , the darn things are expensive but he give me a good deal , the plug in I just don't remember how many wires , I did cut off the dodge flex hoses and installed a good grade of rubber fuel hose from a diesel repair place & I used screw clamps , their was also an open vent ( dont plug it or the tank can't breath ) install a filter on a short hose like a chainsaw gas filter to keep the dirt out ,

The sender can be purchased seperately. When I bought one for my '95 and another guy bought one for his '97 the MOPAR part number was 4797738. That's the part number for just the sender. Make sure that a '98 is the same. It should be about $70. You might get one from NAPA for less than that.

Fuel sender unit

I ordered a Mopar sending unit yesterday and got it today. Having a new paint job on Monday and the bed will be off. :D A great time to change it. I ordered p/n 4797738. ( BTW, thanks for the p/n Joe G. ) I'll check the resistance of the old and new one when I replace it. I've been using the odometer for about 25k miles. Also the Mopar price was $71. 33 including tax and shipping.
