I just ordered and received my new exhaust system from DPP (the Aluminized MBRP system), but I have a PDR HX40 turbo.

Needless to say the downpipe for the new exhause will not work, BUT ... I do still have the original downpipe for the HX40 that Piers sent me sitting in the basement (someone gave me an old downpipe from a PDR HX40 when we installed my HX40 some years ago).

So ... . what the heck can I do now? The Piers downpipe I have is not as long as the MBRP downpipe ... will I/can I cut a piece of the new MBRP downpipe and attached it to Piers downpipe and then to the rest of the new MBRP system? Is there some type of special splicing clamp for the 4" pipes I can use (since one of the two ends of the cut piece will not be flanged).

Or did I just screw myself bigtime? I asked the guy at DPP if their system would work with the PDR HX40 turbo and he said YES, but then I open the box yesterday and the downpipe is for the regular HX35 ... DAMN!

The easiest way would be to install the HX40 down pipe & the MBRP system, then measure the length of pipe needed & have a muffler shop cut you a piece of 4" & expand both ends for you.

Or if you can wait send the downpipe back to DDP, since they told you it would work. There shouldn't be any problem with them sending you the right one.

Depending on how much you need, just go to a big rig shop and buy a 4"coupler(it will be expanded on both ends) and if needed get the right length of 4" to make up the difference, also get two wrap around style clamps. TA-dah!

Well, it looks like the guy I spoke with didn't understand what the PDR HX40 turbo was ... They don't make a downpipe for the HX40 ... so I'll have to do some splicing and dicing and measuring.

DAMN - IT!! #@$%! #@$%!

You could also weld a piece onto the downpipe then connect the rest of the system to that. You should see what I had to do to my 4" system that I bought. It was for a Dodge but it is in my F-250 conversion. That downpipe had to be modded big time, but it turned out great. You can do alot with a welder and a plasma cutter.

That probably doesn't help if you don't have access to one though.

Some of those 4" stainless steel band clamps and a short filler piece will do it, shouldnt be too much movement since there is a bracket right there where it will be spliced. My 4" DP is spliced with a 4" SS Band because it didnt have an expanded end to fit over the rest of the 4" system. It feels pretty solid with no movement there FWIW... ... Jim

Nope, I don't have a welder or any of that stuff ... wouldn't know what to do with one if I did have one.

I will lay out the new system under the truck to get an estimate of what I need to cut to make up the difference. I'll pick up a few 4" clamps.

I just need a warm day up here to do this ... maybe sometime in April.

Getting to the point that things are starting to need replacing each and every month ... darn rust belt!!
