Help No buss no guages all warning lights

Picked up my child bride and started out the gate. It dinged at me. Looked down and I had no guages and all error lights. Also the odometer showed no bus. It still continued to run. Drove 40 miles with a pucked hole, if you know what I mean. Started checking fuses. Did a few and cranked it up. Allthe inst. work and I have a check light on. Anyone have a suggestion what might have gone wrong and How can I read the error code without a tester.

I had this same thing happen to me the other day when I was installing my gauges. I think I bumped one of the plugs under the dash just a little bit loose while I was routing some wires. It sure lit up the dash like a Christmas tree.



I'm not sure the key trick will work on your truck or not, but if you turn the key to run, back to off, back to run, back to off, then back to run (without starting the truck)... . the codes will flash in the odometer. I know this works on my '01, not sure about the '99s.



In any case, you can disconnect the batteries for a little while and it will clear most of the codes. If you can read them, there will probably be one that stays in the memory and will go away after a few start cycles. But the engine malfunction light will (should) go off after you reconnect the batteries.
