threw a fan belt,it took out engine speed sensor wire. I replaced ess now have tac. and 1,2,3,gear but no overdrive or cruse control truck won't down shift either. 96 automatic tran.

With your tach working I say the new ESS and wires are Ok but you could check the connector for bent or dirty pins.

The ESS and TPS (throttle position sensor) help the PCM determine if the trans should be in overdrive.

No kick down or normal downshift: Throttle linkage misadjusted.

Accelerator pedal travel restricted.

Governor/valve body hydraulic pressure to high or

or to low due to sticking governor

Valve body malfuction or incorrect hydraulic

control pressure adjustments.

Governor circuit (re only)electric fault.

Valve body malfuction.

TPS malfunction

PCM malfunction

Valve Body Malfunction.

I would look at TPS. Measure the voltage and adjust you can spray contact cleaner in hole on TPS. Hopefully it's not your PCM.

No 3-4 upshift: Dash overdrive switch off. Over drive circuit fuse blown.

O/D switch wire shorted/open cut. Distance or coolant

sensor malfunction. TPS malfunction. Neutral switch to PCM

wire shorted/cut. PCM malfunction. Overdrive solenoid

shorted/open. Solenoid feed orfice in valve body blocked.

Overdrive clutch failed. Hydraulic pressure low. Valve body

stuck. O/D piston incorrect spacer. Overdrive piston seal

failure. O/D check valve/ orifice failed.

Could the flailing fan belt have damaged or changed the adjustment of either the cruise control or transmission kickdown cables. They feed into the rear of the housing for the accelerator bell crank on the front driver's side of the engine.

Lou,

Was there any additional damage done to the wiring harness in and around the engine? You said the broken belt took out the Crank Angle Sensor wires, so I'm wondering if anything else got damaged that could play a part in this.

Does your engine temperature gauge seem to be working normally?

John L.

Thanks, for your help John. engine temperture is the same as it always as been. The wire at the bottom of crankcase pulley was bent can not see anything that looks out of place
