May have run it dry but first clue was no hot water this AM. Anyway added 10 gal. #2 to tank, repeatedly hit re-set on ignitor,no fire. Smells of fuel, so I believe I have fuel to the the "blower" but it won't ignite. Any tips on getting it restarted safely. It's a Beckett if that matters. Thanks in advance guys, wife and kids will be very happy if I can get hot water tonight, and they know I'm asking TDR for advice :D :D Jim G.

If you ran it out, you probably have to bleed the line. Crack open the bleeder valve and hit the reset switch, if you are getting fuel close the valve. If it doesn't light after that, you should call for service. The electric eye may be shorted or nozzle might neede replaced.

Most likely you ran out of fuel.

The bleeder looks just like a brake bleeder on the oil pump- a hockey puck sized steel pump usually opposite the fan motor- all on the same shaft.

Happened to me last week, open bleed valve while pushing reset button, when you get fuel close . Should fire up. may take several tries. Good luck.

FIRE!!

Thanks again guys, furnace is lit, water is heating!! TDR members come thru again:cool: Because I could smell oil I didn't think bleeding line would be necessary... ... WRONG again! 3RD bleeding cycle and it fired up. TDR members are THE BEST. JimG AND family.

Now you have one more excuse to justify the TDR to the wife. :D

Good advice!!

A friend of mine is a service technician. He loves the calls where something doesn't allow the burner to light, and the customer has kept pushing the reset until the chamber has LOTS of raw fuel on the bottom!

He fixes the problem, then lights it up! Gets pretty fierce until all the excess is burned. Customer DEFINITELY doesn't do that again!!

Been there done that and learned the hard way!

that should justify a couple years of TDR, that service call would have cost at least $75. 00 around where I live.

HEY TOWPRO....

... . your tip on replacing the lift pump from above, actually very detailed instructions, saved me about 2-3 days down-time back in June. LP was failing, vacation was approaching and rather than mess with the dealer and warranty etc..... I picked one up at Cummins and spent about 45 mins per your instructions. Muchos Gracias, friend. More years of TDR membership paid in advance! JimG.
