I'm helping a buddy put new trailer lights on - and his aren't color coded. How can you tell from the 4 wire harness in the new light which color is what? For example the left side trailer light also has a clear part under so the license plate is light. It has the following wires:

white green yellow

The right light does not have the yellow but has a green

white green red

When I go to hook up my wires - which one goes where?

Just replaced mine earlier...

Brown... Used for all running lights

Yellow... Drivers side turn and brake

Green... Passangers side turn and brake

White... Ground

The new lights I just put on had 3 wires...

Red... Spliced to the yellow or green

Black... Spliced to the brown

White... wired to the mounting bolt for the light

I purchased a 7 pin trailer plug and a 4 pin wiring kit on Saturday. I got tired of borrowing trailer that never have a long enough 4 pin wire harness to reach the Dodge 7 pin receptacle and decided to make an extension cord.

Well, the 7 pin plug has the following instructions

WHITE = ground

BLUE = brakes

GREEN = tail/license

BLACK = battery charger

RED = left turn /stop

BROWN = right turn/stop

YELLOW = backup/aux

The 4 pin connector set lists

WHITE = ground

YELLOW = left turn/stop

BROWN = tailights

GREEN = right turn/stop

Go figure
