HELP on transmission conversion standard to Automatic

As a result of an operation involving the amputationj of my left leg I am unable to drive my 5 speed truck.



My truck is a 98 12 V quad cab 5 speed that would have to be converted to an automatic. Can this be done? What are the problems? Any input would be helpful.



I know this project has probably been discussed before. If some one can point me in the right direction it would be appreciated.

yes it can be done and I bet you can find somebody to swap that wants a manual.

Your best bet is to find a 47RH not a 47RE. The RE needs electronic support. The RH is a much simpler transmission. I know of 2 people in my area that have done this swap. Amianthus here on the TDR would be a great source of information for this swap.

Thanks for the info and support. I really appreciate it. Is the 47RH an earlier transmission than the 47RE? Are they compatible?

I am located in Victoria BC Canada.

The 47RH is uses a Hydraulic Gov assy. The 47RE uses more electronics as well as an Electrical Gov pressure sensor. Other than that... The valve bodies are different..... the actual Hardware Guts of the transmissions are the same.
