Ok - maybe I live where windshield wipers are used more than anyone else, but I can't seem to find one worth a %^$#@! Also I'd like to find one that has the aerodynamic wing to hold them down to the window (you know the ones with the "wing" on the back to force it down on the windshield. I drive through the Columbia River Gorge (where the winds are routinely the worst in the Country - thus the wind surfing capital) when at times the wipers are lifted off the window . I've tried the usual places and have no luck - does anybody have a source for the blades with the wings? Also - what about Winter Blades - the ones with the winter covers on them - does anybody use them?

I've been a fan of the OE blades for a while, but before going on a recent 2000 mile trip, I decided to replaced the OE's with some of the new teflon blades. All I can say is so far they've been great. They have a superior wipe to the OE blades, but time will tell if they hold up. Sorry I can't help with the wind wing though.

For the winged ones you might try getting some OEM ones from the right year. My 96 gasser had them stock and they were pretty good up to about 70mph and I just replaced the blades. As far as blade types I am currently using bosch and they seem like the best I have used in quite some time. I have used the winter ones in the past and they do seem to help the wipers from getting so clogged up with the thick/icy stuff.

I think Anco is brand I went with on mine. Do a good job, I think my bug shield shield plays havoc with the blades on the down stroke.

Have you tried Rain-X on the windshield? In my experience it makes ANY wiper work better! When freshly applied, you hardly even need the wipers!

How do you get "Rain X" off of a windshield? Ever since I tried that stuff the blade leaves a haze untill it dries up, usally a few secounds. That few seconds seems to last forever when the sun is in your eyes and you cant see through that haze. I never had any problems with wipers on any off my vehicles till I tried that stuff. It has been a year since I used rainx and still that haze effect.

I used lacquer thinner to get the Rain-X off mine. Rain-X worked great till I needed to use the wipers then it left black scuff marks on the windshield from the wiper blades, even new ones. Still use it on the side windows though. Anco blades work fine for me.

Grey Wolf - ????

Same blades since 94 - and you apparently drive a lot - I'd send those wipers into the Smithsonian!! I haven't found a wiper that wipes without streaks after a year.

As I understand it they are pure silicone... . no rubber. What amazes me is that I live in the desert and I thought they would have cracked and fallen apart a long time ago:confused:

Rather than use the regular Rain X, use their washer fluid from Walmart - works much better and you get a fresh dose everytime you use the squirts.

I used Perma Shield on my truck and I did the winshield too - worked great and the bugs and crap don't stick. It's nice and clean now.

Every now and then a tank at work will blow over and it will put drops or a mist of glycerin or fat on everybodies vehicles. Sometimes that gets pretty hard to get off a windshield. I think the Perma Shield will help with that.

I don't really understand all the big deal about wiper blades! On the old '92 I replaced them once in 10 years and 300,000 miles! I have to say they are about due again. I just bought what looked like a good deal at Wal-Mart. How do you guys go through so many blades? Are you just more picky than I am or are you really wearing them out? I'll admit I don't drive in a lot of rain... and a few streaks don't bother me as long as they aren't in my line of sight. Might be the difference.

If you have to spend any time driving on a dark, rainy night, good wipers are a must. You can drive if you can't see. If you live anywhere where they are exposed to UV,chemicals, road salt, temperature extremes, fallout, etc they don't last long. Somtimes you don't know how bad they really are until you change them.

I'll second the motion on the Rain X windshield washer fluid. Used to use regular Rain X but had the same problems described here with the hazing, etc. It also never seems to come off. The stuff in the windshield washer fluid works as advertised, but doesn't haze, and wears off after a few days. A quick squirt of the washers is all you need to renew the effect.

The way my blades usually fail is the rubber gets stiff and stuck facing the direction they were going when they stop, up. They still wipe great in the downward stroke but skip badly on the upward. I usually get at least two years out of run of mill Ancos.

Bigramguy -I'll try that

I'll try the Rain X fluid. I did use the Presetone winter de/icer fluid last year - works great in that the blades won't freeze when you wipe with the fluid working. Picked it up in Wally World.

Rain X istuff has de-icier too

The Rain X windshield washer I have here is yellow, and it also has de-icier in it. I actually use it year round, does a decent job on the bugs and dries up quick.

I have seen a purple one before, which is the same stuff minus the de-icier,but haven't used it.
