Will be putting my DD mag-hytec on this Sunday so I went to Autozone to get a filter and noticed it was enclosed. I thought I read somewhere to use the open type [EDIT: I just noticed that on the bottom of the Mag-Hytech instructions it says "We recommend the open type filter"] so I hauled butt over to the dealer and they pulled out an enclosed one which I made them swap back for an open type (pre 98 I guess).

From reading more from Mag-Hytec I think they say the closed type filter has 2 screws and the open type has 3. If I use the open filter type will I need to come up with the other screw they're talking about?

Thanks in advance.

p. s. did a cursory search and couln't find where I read it before.

If your truck is currently equipped with the enclosed and you wish to switch to the open filter yuo will have to remove one valve body screw and use it to secure the new filter. Just hold the filter in place and you will see whick screw to remove (it will line up with the 3rd hole in the filter. Failure to do this will result in fluid leaking past the filter... . not good.

If your Mag hytec is a DD pan,you dont need to use the 3rd screwmsince tha spacer only has 2 screws in it. I use the open style on all trucks.
