I ordered a #11, 4k gsk, 60lb valve springs (which come in the 4k kit) and a pac brake from PDR. I installed the valve springs, governor springs and the plate. All I can say is WOW... I can't believe I waited so long. However I do have one problem the Pac Brake Piers sent me is a 14000AT. My truck is a 5 speed, and on the brake there is a tag that says "not for use on manual transmission or severe engine damage will result". Does anyone know if that is because of the valve springs. I would like to install this thing this weekend but I'm not sure if this is right. Any insight would be helpful.

Thanks Again,

Brian,

Usually exhauast brakes don't work as well on auto trans but work great on manual trans.

Having "AT" as part of model number(serial number) would indicate it is for auto trans.

Dodge blamed exhaust brakes for damaged auto trans.

So because of the latter or the first reason the exhaust brake is modified to get optimal performance from auto trans.

I think because of modifcations the engine(cylinders) will reach abnormal temps.

..

I looked on Pacbrake.com and the only thing I could find different between the manual and auto brakes is the housing. I can't see what difference it would make to the engine. A 12v cummins is a 12v cummins from the exhaust side of the engine. What is the difference in the housings? Any insight would be helpful because I would like to install this thing today.

Thanks Again,

Brian,

Send Piers or PacBrake an e-mail.

Looking at ad in the TDR publication Pac brake states that their brakes put less torque force on the turbo. (More force more heat could equal engine damage?!!)

The difference has to lie in the fact that exhaust brakes work 100% better on manuals as far as braking.

Dodge doesen't recommend exhaust brakes on auto trans.

Those that use them on auto trans use a swicth to lock up torque convertor.

PacBrake probably modified an exhuast brake to work on the autos better.

I would check with them (Pacbrake) to find out the exact reason why it should not be used with a manual trans.

Call Pacbrake.

I installed and Automatic PACbrake on my 5speed. The difference is the automatic slips more in the drive train generating less back pressure then 5spd. Thus there is one orifice and it is smaller then that of the 5speed to help make more back pressure.

On a 5speed they say it will generated more backpressure then you can handle even with 60lbs springs.

They told me to drill out a second hole in the butterfly (forgot the size) and if/when I got 60lbs springs plug the smaller hole (not the one I made).

When I installed mine, they told me to install it as is if I don't change the springs, and plug one hole (with screw supplied) if I did add the springs. Mine may have been for a manual though.

..

I called Pacbrake and Piers and they said drill it to 31/64ths and it will work fine. That plate doesn't drill easy but it was much better than waiting to send it back and waiting for another one. This thing is a blast to drive now. I just can't describe the way it sounds with a straight pipe and a Mega Cannon other than awesome. ;) :)

Thanks again for all the help,
