OK came home at 10:30 last night and A/C worked just fine. Got in this morning and no a/c. Popped the hood a/c clutch not engaging... ... A/C light on inside so opened up fuse box fuse blown tried replacing fuse and even a bigger fuse, just to see if it would blow and well sure enough. Anyhow have any suggestions other than a trip to the dealer?? Its going first thing in the morning but I live in S Texas and trying to make it through the day today??? Thanks

Its a 2003 4x4 3500 CTD HO 6spd 2 months old

Your AC clutch should have two wires going to it. A power and a ground. If you are blowing fuses, its possible the power wire is chaffed or rubbed thru and touching ground somewhere.

I guess its possible that the clutch coil is shorted internally, but thats pretty unlikely.

Hope this helps.

Do the air controls work? What I mean is can you swich from say floor air to defrost?

I had the wires to the electric fan clutch rub through on mine, this shorted out which took all the heater controls with it and my exhaust break control. They replaced the fan clutch and rerouted the wires and all was fine. I didn't try A/C but I know I couldn't get the defrost to come on or change the air temperature, it all runs on the same fuse.

My advise would be to take it to the dealer, as mopar mudder said, this could turn into a sizable project.

BTW,, What part of South Texas are you in ?

The Sanden/International (Sankyo) compressor did this on my '84 Isuzu P'up. It was out of warranty so off came the clutch. The three screws that hold the clutch coil in place were loose and the wire had worried off and went to ground. I believe we have the same Sankyo compressors on our trucks. They're a good compressor otherwise.
