Help please! g360 or nv4500 for $800 more

Yeah I know the 4500 is better, but I didn't have the money for the convertion so I had my g360 and np205 rebuilt. $1600 dollars later they ship it back to me except It's not my g360 it's a nv4500.

So I call them up and they say they made a mistake and sent me a customers unit and it gets sent back. Now there saying my g360 is in real bad shape and for anouther 300 they will give me a nv4500

Should I go for it? I really didn't have the money so if I go for the 4500 it will cost me anouther $300 plus what ever it costs for the convertion, so say $800.

I'm so far behind on this crew cab convertion it's not funny, I planned on having it done by the end of may so I could make a run out east. I still will need my drive shafts rebuilt, and who knows what else :{

Hope I can get this done before I run out of cash

I am skeptical today & it sounds fishy!!

They did more than send you back the wrong transmission.

They didn't even tear down your G360 until after the NV4500 was sent back!!??

I woulda kept the 4500 as long as it was a diesel version - 1 1/4" input shaft and 4wd too. Then buy an Advance Adaptors bellhousing and be done with it. Did you already send them back the 4500?

yeah, I should have kept it lol

I'm gonna call them shortly to find out whats up with mine, I may be taking a road trip to north dakota soon!!

They say fifth gear is seised onto the main shaft and they are trying to cut it off so they can save the other gears? Says he's gonna treat me right, but they have had the transmission for a month now.

sorry to hear about it.

If money is the problem... stick with the getrag. for parts, they are out there. for instance I have a g360 4x4 transmission in the bed of my pickup just sitting there... . Sorry, it is spoken for, however.

Trans Snafu ! !

My NV4500 ended up costing me $900 less that it would have cost to rebuild the getrag at a shop in Phx. I paid for freight $200+$300 for adaptor kit/bellhousing etc. cost of rebuild and labor to R & R If you do not have an exact cost of completed rebuild he can tell you anything he wants and you will end up paying more for the getrag than you would for the NV4500. At this point he can tell you anything about yours and how are you to know. Too bad you bargaining chip (transmission) is already gone. Check cost of complete rebuilt w/kit on NV4500 w/Blumenthals of OK City. Good Luck sounds like you are dealing with a slightly crooked shop. If you let him know that end result of how you are treated will be posted here for thousands to see and consider he might be inclined to ease up. R C

Your first mistake was to send the Getrag to anyone else. If you don't know how to repair the mechanical stuff on a first gen, you will wind up paying too much for repair to have the truck be economical. While I certainly don't know what was wrong with your original transmission, it does sound like you are dealing with some less than quality people.

I have advised one owner on a 4x4 getrag that turned out to be too far gone to repair economically. But if you didn't inspect (and take pictures of) yours before shipping it off, you will not ever be able to prove anything. Was your transmission locked up? What you are stating from them sounds like blowing smoke to cover their incompetence.

Sounds like you might just as well get out the old vasiline and get ready for whatever those guys have to offer.

I had taken the top cover off and looked in, the gears looked ok. I could not get the transmission to shift and while frying the input shaft would jump up. It did seem to be stuck in a higher gear, since the output shaft moved alittle slower than the input. While spinning the input shaft it did not appear to have any roughness to it. All i figured was wrong is some bearings.

I chose to have the transmission rebuilt figuring it wasn't that bad, and since i never fooled with a transmission before, I went with a company I thought was good and would have a quick turnover.

Now I wish I had gotten into it myself, I cant tell you how many engines I have redone myself for my road runner toys over the years, I have dial indicators and most tools.

I must say my first diesel has been a educational experience, once I get this together I still gotta figure out some fuel issues, but I'll get her.

transmission Woes !

I would like to know who these folks are, just so I know not to use them.

Pepecat... . You did it the best way. I was on the road w/a load and had few choices and did not trust the shop that already had it apart. They did do a passable job of installing the rebuilt w/kit I bought. Will never go to AM/PM in Flagstaff, AZ for anything other than tow services. R C :(

Don't take all I said to much on the personal side. I am quite sure you DO wish you had done it yourself. I said what I did to bring attention to the many who are following this thread as browsers and not contributors. If you look at the many post on the Getrag, it has been the source of much grief to a lot of folks. The shops (some anyway) have discovered that there is a gold mine in Getrag repair since there are so many owners who can't do their own work and they can tell anything and get scot clear on it.

As I mentioned, I am very aware that the Getrag can be a complete meltdown, especially in the fwd configuration. It is my opinion that this occurs because the output shaft is supported by the transfer case and the unit can be run long past the point that it should have been pulled and reshimed. If you had the top off and all was clean and no burned forks and no blackened gears, they are not telling you the truth. Fifth gear (OD) would be very blackened if it had fused to the mainshaft. In fact, they don't know which end is up if they sent a 4500 by 'mistake'.

Best of luck in the outcome.

i did a getrag to nv4500 swap with out a kit i have a lot of pictures if you

would like me to send them to you p. m. me your e-mail address

Thanks Rbergman, you just got pmed.

I just got off the phone and it seems my g360 is to far gone to cost efectively fix. :( so now Im going to have to try to find the cheapest way to do the convertion and hope that I can come up with enough dough to at least get the truck on the road again. :-{} I'm strating to wish i went with a 727 and a gear venders unit, I know how to fix 727's.

MTownsend, I priced a rebuilt Getrag from Blumenthals for 1500. 00, not to bad if yours is all gone.

Yeah, but these people have my transfercase too! And I have not been able to get ahold of anyone there for a week. and they already have my cash

If I ever get my stuff back the price of the Nv4500 and transfercase Rebuilt is $1960 plus the shipping both ways.

The original price for the g360 and transfercase was quoted @ $1660

Right now I'm starting to get worried because I haven't been able to get ahold of anyone at that shop.

If I don't hear anything real soon I'm going on a little 600 mile trip

Well Yesterday I found out my transmission and transfercase finly made it to greatfalls ( atown 50 miles south of me) and That I should be recieving it today!

I got a mesage this morning that They would like to deliver it this morning and i need to pay COD 356. 04 :--) I allready payed shipping WTH!

$195 dollars payed to ship units to them in March

$800 Deposit payed to start work

$1060 payed when they said they were done and that included shipping

Shipped the wrong unit

Sent Unit back

Was told Mine could not be fixed (at least reasonably)

Told them to go ahead and Build a nv4500

When they were done they wanted to charge me 580 more With shipping and I told them I had allready payed for shipping, so they knocked off the shipping price

$420 for finished unit

So now that I got off the phone with The shipping comany I'm told that Proformance Gear in blackhawk Sd Dosn't have a account with the shipping company, and that they started to get one and never gave them everything needed for it.

So now it looks like I'm going to be out More money but the shipping company is going to give me a break

$248 insted of 356

so $2723 is the total at this point and I still need to addapt it to fit :-{}
