I posted my 2005 Ram 2500 QC LB 4x4 SLT 6sp (NV5600) for sale on Craigslist yesterday and on TDR (hope to be live with it soon on TDR) and I wonder if my pricing is setup right. I advertised it at $26,000 based on the various blue book value checkers on the internet, and looking at local sales ads. I wonder if I priced it too low, because within 8 hours I had 3 cash offers on the truck. One is coming with cash in about an hour to possibly buy it. Should I hold out and ask more????

Thanks in advance for your help, and sorry for the short notice.

You didn't mention how many miles you have on it or its condition. Otherwise, it seems you are selling the truck at a very reasonable price considering the money you have put into your mods. I'd hold your guns for full price, but honor what you advertised. Good luck.

So what's next -- new Ram CTD???

Be very wary of any offer you receive on Craig's List. I've listed vehicles and other items there and have gotten scam offers to either ship a vehicle, take a check for more than what I was asking then send the difference, etc. One guy from Africa had an accomplice in the U. S. send me a big `ol check made to look like it was issued by Delta Airlines. Since I traced the IP address of his e-mail when it first arrived I knew what was going on, and just played it out to see how the scam works. People have also had their vehicles stolen by someone who showed up on the pretense of buying a vehicle. Even if you accept cash, make sure it's not counterfeit. That said, I've had a bit of success using Craig's List to sell vehicles and trailers.

Maybe, maybe not. If they pay cash for the full price I think your in the right ball park. Good used 5. 9 diesels are hard to find, a lot of people want them. I have a 2005 Dually and I had a guy offer me 32,000 cash at the fuel station a month ago. I might of started a little higher in price, you'll just have to be more firm on the price.

I'd be leary of cash these days with all the counterfeiting. A $500 cash non-refundable deposit to hold it until a USPS money order shows up sounds better. The postal money orders cannot be stopped once issued and cashed by the receiver.

i recently posted a truck and a motor on craigslist and they scam you with a fake money order it cashes at the bank but then it comes back fraud i would be very sceptical about craigslist

For anything over a couple of thousand dollars, insist they take you to their bank and have their bank issue you a bank check payable to your bank or better yet have them do a bank to bank money transfer into your account.

I have sold many things on craiglist. Yes we all get the fake e-mails. Just ignore them and move on. Insist in cash only. I have not had any problems yet insisting on cash or making them take me to their bank for an actual bank check you see being created right in front of you.

I haven't been scammed on Craigslist, but if he's offering you cash, he can certainly go to the bank and get a cashier's check. If he balks at that, then I wouldn't take the cash. As mentioned, if it counterfeit, you're stuck with it and if you try to use it, you can go to jail. I'd pull the truck from CL and see what transpires. If it becomes a "no sale", then put it back on CL at a higher price. I also would try to meet him somewhere not at my house. You never know who's looking for what. Someone with a nice truck might have some other goodies the bad guys might be interested in.

Good luck!

Watch there is some YUNNY money being passed !! Some are 5. 00 changed to 50. 00 they wash out the 5. 00 then make it 50. 00 !!! There is some in S IN and in KY .

If you get the price you referred to I think you have done very well. I listed my truck(described below) here and on Craigs list and on a couple of other sites for 20k and did not get one--not one phone call or inquire.

Good luck with your sale-

Jay

The ONLY WAY TO GO!

Sorry for the lack of follow up on this posting. I did sell the truck in less than 24 hours, and by cash I meant a cashier's check drawn on a local bank that I verified prior to signing the title over. That is WAY too much cash to have in hand to make me feel comfortable. I think I should have asked a bit more for it, seeing how the market is on 5. 9 models, especially since mine was perfect cosmetically and mechanically. Oh well, I moved on to a gasser truck, was not pleased with the towing performance so sold it, and had one HELL of a time finding a clean low milage 5. 9 for a descent price. After a protracted search, I found one. The verdict is still out on if it is the cream puff it appears to be, but so far it is great.

I look at it this way... I sell stuff for what I'd pay for it if I was buying... . and once I put something in an add I stick by it... . If I went say 100 miles to get a truck and when I got there the owner wouldn't take my money, which is what he was asking... I'd be upset...

I know this is after the fact... . but its how I see it...

I second that. Cash in that amount has two problems:
-It gets stolen (usually by someone who knows you have that much cash, like the brother of the guy that just "bought" your truck).
-It throws red flags at the bank when you try to deposit more than $10k in cash (they have to file a form with the government).

If the customer will not do a deposit and money order/bank check here is what I would do.
-Arrange with your bank manager to do the transaction at your bank. They can verify the bills are real, and deposit it in your account. Once that is done, you can sign the title over.
-This way you don't get robbed by someone who knows you have the cash, and the bill can be verified as real.

Good Luck!

You sold your truck at a fair price and all are happy. it is good to hear stories of sales where seller is honest and is just trying to get what the truck in worth. My son bought a 2003 Dodge Cummins from a gentleman in Montana for $18,000. The guy had really taken care of the truck and my son is continuing to do so. They are good friends now and talk on a regular basis. The gentleman was asking $20,000 and my son could only come up with $18,000 and he was honest also that is all he had. Anyway, good for you I hope your truck brings many years of joy to the new owner.
