rail pressure gauge install

Bosch 0445120255 injector pricing ?

My 2006 dodge turbo diesel has just started doing this: 1st. no trouble codes. when accelerating from 40 or so in top gear (auto trans.) it starts to "bog down" as I push the throttle further. loses rpm's as well. If I let up on the throttle it will continue to accelerate (slowly) but this is not normal for my truck. (120000 miles)
I have a smarty Jr so I checked and there have been no codes set besides the code that has been setting for years: Crankshaft position sensor)....???

Fuel Filter

My '06 has a similar problem. The boost gauge maxes out under 20 and it used to go to over 30. Basically it's in limp mode. All filters are changed at regular intervals and I religiously use Howe's in the fuel tank. Injectors are good and I've narrowed it down to either the waste gate solenoid of its wiring.

"gauges gauges gauges" Ok what Gauges? and what am I looking for? The only Gauges my truck has are: Fuel, oil pressure. engine temp, Voltage.

Fuel Pressure, Boost, Exhaust Gas Temp and maybe Trans temp. Then of course you will need a place for them which is usually a pillar mount and maybe a steering column mount. Browse around genosgarge.com and see what you think. It is nice to see what is going on at anytime with the engine and trans.

You sound new to the 3rd gen world. The HPCR (high pressure common rail) fuel system hits pressures of over 23,000 psi and is very sensitive to fuel contamination. Many guys add additional fine filtration, like a 2 mic filter in addition to the stock 7 micron filter. Point being, no you absolutely do not try to clean and reuse a fuel filter and you should be as careful and clean as possible when changing the fuel filter.

Gauges. FYI the factory oil pressure gauge is fake. There is only a pressure switch on the engine set for something like 6 psi. So as long as the oil pressure is above the setpoint the computer thinks everything is fine and makes up a number for the gauge to display. As for after market gauges, I have boost, exhaust gas temp (EGT) and transmission temp. EGT and transmission temp are the most useful because they will tell you if you are pushing the truck too hard. Sure you can fill the cab with every gauge available, but if you don't look at them it won't matter. I believe some of the high tech, high $$$ gauge things allow you to program in limits which will sound an alarm, which could be quite useful. Edge monitor maybe? Smarty makes a gauge thingy too?

Do some searching on the forum, there are plenty threads about gauges and you can get an idea of what you need or want, but unfortunately most of the pictures showing the different mounts and locations are long gone.

What gauges will have value to you really depends on what you plan to do with the truck and how hard you plan to run it.

Gauges, etc.

I have a 2006 with auto transmission also. One of the first things I did when I bought my truck new was add three gauges--EGT, Boost, and Trans Temp--mounted together on top of the dash in front of the driver's seat. I chose Isspro gauges, which matched the factory gauges quite nicely, and bought the gauges and mount from Genos. If you call and tell them what you doing they will not only give advice and send the guides they have prepared on how to install, etc., they will also make certain you get all the parts you need to complete the job. They know what they sell and will make sure it fits and comes with even all the little parts. Later, after my in-dash tachometer failed, I added a tach and fuel line (not common-rail) pressure gauge in a steering wheel mount, from Genos, of course. I just checked and Genos still shows both mounts on their site.

I also want to comment on your statement about accelerating from 40 mph. Maybe this is a case of the words having a different meaning for each of us, or maybe my truck has a problem, but at 40 I'm most likely to be in 3rd, not OD. I need to reach about 46 or 47 mph to be able to stay in OD. If I do manage, by being on relatively level ground and gentle driving, to get into OD at 40 and accelerate at all my truck will downshift. I have a Smarty POD, not Smarty Jr., and don't know if this makes a difference.

As long as I am mentioning differences I should also mention I have put the factory fuel pump into reserve status and have installed a FASS Titanium fuel pump instead. With the FASS I now have 3 micron filtration ahead of the factory 7 micron filter and a total of 3 filters in the fuel line.
