Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) help plz 2001 6spd transmission problem

my father in law called yesterday he has a 2001 drw 6spd . he says that he lost 6th gear that it willnot go in just grinds all other gears are fine . even if you turn motor off it still willnot go in has anybody had the same problem?the deal wants $1200. 00 just to drop transmission and look at it . lol

Haven't heard of this specific problem. Could be related to the shifter or the synchro/gear itself. Popping off the shift tower is fairly easy - take off the boot and 4 bolts later it is out.



I suspect the dealer will want to put in a new transmission regardless of the problem. R&R of a NV5600 should not be more than $400-$500 depending on 2wd or 4x4. Take it to a transmission shop instead of a dealer.
