i have a 2008 2500 with the 6. 7 cummins i bought it in january with 31000 miles and it now has 35000. since the day i bought it i have gotten a bad smell of diesel through the vents mostly whenever i come to a stop at a traffic light or something. it will also smoke front the right front wheel well i have looked around but cannot see where it is come from... . i have had it back to the dealer 6 times for this problem. 2 times ago they replaced the egr cooler and the tubes for it but it is still doing it! any ideas on what it could be!?... ... also if i ever get the time i would like to buya tuner for it and a 5 inch exhaust. any recomendations on what brand to buy?

thank you

chris

I would check your clamp at the turbo and down pipe, I have seen a couple just back off, especially if you have had any service done to the turbo, ie clean or replace, it could also be the plug for the cleaning port.

From your statement you bought this truck used, correct? If you did this truck could have been modified and returned to stock by the owner. In doing so he may not have gotten the down pipe clamp on correctly and or tighten to the proper torque level. This will allow diesel exhaust to escape.

Now as to turners there are several out on the market now. Smarty and H&S turners are the best. For exhaust there are also several makes on the market. I am using MBRP 5" Turbo back with a muffler and a 6"tip. I would also recommend gages for boost and EGT's to watch what is happening to your engine after you add the turner.

I had the same smell at 1 time and it was from the power steering cap had popped off. might want to check there... good luck

yeah i did buy the truck used and the dealer is saying the clamp is "to spec" and i did check the power steering cap and it is on there tight

I have heard good things about the Smarty programmer, including significant gains in mileage from the increase in injection timing from it.
