My brother has a 2004 diesel and he accidentally put regular gas in it. The tank was on empty and he put in 9 gal of regular in. He did not start it. How can he get it out easily.

Thanks in Advance

John

I gues the best way is to drop the tank. you realy don't have to worry about cleaning it completely out. just make sure it gets filled with good old #2

No worries.

Go to the hardware store and get some clear plastic hose. Stick it as far down as it'll go and do the old syphon trick. You'll be able to see the fuel coming up with the clear hose. Drain it and put a few gallons of diesel in there and you're good to go. Tell your brother to not grieve as I did the same thing on my '99. I had it towed to the dealer and they discovered that my tank was collapsed due to the selling dealer's failure to remove an in-transit cover on the vent. Repair cost me the tow bill only. No worries. :) Another more hygenic way to do it is to buy a cheap transfer pump from Kragen or any auto parts store.

If you want to get as much as possible out, park on a hill facing front down. Of course blow into the hose to make sure it's facing where the "gas" is. Then as the rest have mentioned - it's a good thing he didn't start it up - at least there's less of a possibility gas is up in the IP.

UPDATE on Regular GAS in the TANK...

When my brother called me he realized what he had done and he was smart enough that he did not turn it on. He had it towed home and I went to the parts store and got some hose. We took the filter out and opened the fuel filter drain hooked it to a gas can. Turning the ignition on and off made it run into the can. We also pressurized the fuel tank with air from a compressor. Now we are going to fill the fuel filter with diesel and put a new filter in. We are also going to put 10 gallons of no 2. in the tank.

Thanks for the help!!! TRD is the BEST!!!

I did the very same thing at a Flying J in Wells, NV. They syphoned as much out of the tank & put in 5 gal diesel & 1 gal 30 weight non detergent oil & drove to the fuel island where I refilled tank with diesel. He gave me another gal of oil & had me put it in the next fill up. Never had a problem. It was on my 92 Ram. He only charged me $60. 00. Just Like Bob said.
