My wife ran my 99 quad cab dually out of fuel yesterday, I put fuel in it and bled the system first at the top of the fuel filter then at the banjo on the side of the pump then I loosened the return line banjo and cranked it over until I got clear fuel out of the return banjo. I then loosened one of the injector lines on the back of the pump and watched it as I had it cranked over and all that I get from there is a little foam and then a tiny "puff' of vapor each time that plunger is acivated. I have cranked it over way more than I would have thought necessary to get it to prime with no results. Does this electronic pump have a fuel shut off solenoid on it somewhere? If I hold the throttle to the floor does the pump get a signal to go wide open since the engine is actually not running? Any Ideas would be appreciated. I have some ether and I know that I have to disable the heaters in the intake to use it but I also hesitate to use it because of potential damage.

Thanks for your help!!!

Crack open the first injector. Bump the starter to activate the lift pump and wait until iit stops running. With the injector cracked, crank until you have fuel flowing out around the injector. At that point, tighten up the injector. This should have bled the air out of #1. If you can get one cylinder to fire, the rest should fire. In a worst case, you will have to crack injectors on #1, 3, 5. These engines are a big pain to get to start after runing them out of fuel.

Success!!!!!!!

I bled the lines at the injectors as you suggested and I got fuel out of #3 but it still did not start. I disconneted the heating grid and gave it a very small shot of ether and it started immediately.

thanks for your help!!!!!!!!!!!!
