My 96 fuel shut down solenoid will not pull in by itself -- most of the time! I have to have the key on then pull it up by hand then it will hold and start. Wifey is gona give it the magnum hand gun treatment if I don't fix er soon. I had heard there is a seperate relay for pull up then one for hold on. Where are they located and where should I get replacements--as in Dodge or Cummins or Napa ETC. Maybe I should just pack around a milk crate so wifey can stand on it reach easier ??

There are other things that can cause this, but it's usually the relay. A 30 amp automotive relay from Radio Shack will work. About $6 for one. Any electronics store should have a 70 amp one. The larger relay on the fire wall on the engine side of the master cylinder is the pull on relay. Also check the blue wire from the driver's side battery. It's is a fusable link that supplies current to the relay. It sometimes fails. One guy found out that the nut holding the blue wire on the battery was loose.

check your batteries. if you have corroded and or dirty terminals, i won't get the correct voltage to pull itself up. learned that first hand. Oo.

Larry B's sells the whole solenoid unit or just the relay. Not sure how competitive his price is but check this link and scroll down towards the bottom of the page.

Larry B's

FWIW - I removed mine - cleaned it up and re-installed it using a bike innertube for a dust cover and it has been working fine. Many here on the TDR have done this.

Best of luck

Larry also sells the rubber boots for the solenoid.

Yep - At the time I did mine Larry did not have the replacement boots - when my bike tube rots I'll get the oem boot from him.
