Did you by any chance loosen the cap on the reservoir when you tried to compress it? I would think that they should vent somehow, but maybe it is plugged. But then again, I really don't know much about them.

made a call to diesel darryl, after i got it back in, had a buddy lift up on the clutch pedal did it, go figure. anyway darryl said that the spring in the master cylinder is getting weak and it let the pedal travel down on its own.

On most slave cylinders the allen set screw in the housing is to hold parts together and IS NOT a bleed screw..... Often if it's removed those parts will shift and now the slave is scrap... . in most cases there is no bleed on slave cylinders... .

With the pedal in the up position the slave cylinder rod is compressed by hand to pump back to the master what air or fluid is in the slave...

When installing a new slave it is suggest that you bench bleed the slave and tubing, once this is done you connect the slave and tubing to the master and burp out the excess air... .

When we do this we always draw out the old fluid and replace it with fresh fluid...

Hope this helps. .
