Changing Tire settings with Smarty on Stock

I was trying out my new smarty today and tried a couple different programs and then in the middle of the country I was waiting for someone and tried to load another program and it was interupted now all it does is goes to the screen that says

Err comm. Time out /troubleshooting says to check connection cable done that about 30 times no change truck will not start and fuel pump relay pulses constantly causing fass to pulse along with it now.

HELP Bill

there is a connection problem between smarty and your obd port. try some dialectric grease or putting pressure in the connection.

I've noticed that it worked fine before.

I tried to put a bit of pressure on it several different ways but no change I put die electric grease in it I had some and worked it in and tried it several times and same problem.

it was my understanding that the smarty had a recovery program built in for that exact reason. you might want to see if you have the latest software on the smarty.

another option is to unhook both batteries for a minute or 2 and the try again.

I have unhooked the batteries already it didn't help. It is a brand new smarty just got it from II last week. It tries to go through its recovery process but it still comes up with the

ERR COMM / TIME OUT message.

sometimes it goes directly to that screen and sometimes it will acknowledge that a download was interupted and tries to recover then goes back to err.

Did you find out what caused the early retirement

Here is the response from Marco earlier today on that question.

"Bob has an ECM that matches your truck perfectly

What happened to you is in all honesty an ECM problem.

Some part of it has let go during the update.

It depends a little from where we look at it.

Most likely the memory chip let go. I've seen that before.

Now, that happened during the update of the ECM. During

the update the memory chip get's erased and then written.

A chip that's marginal will most likely die when it's "stressed"

most. The erase / write cycle. See where I come from?

It's also likely that the codes you've been seeing have been

caused by the ECM that already had problems. Seen also

that one more than enough times back then when we were

doing the CaTCHER ECM's... . "

WELLL - ya never know - Bob and Marco just MIGHT be on vacation next time you or someone else needs one... :-laf :-laf

NAH, I tend to mistrust these electronic engine controls - as you can see by my user name, I'm a Ham Radio operator, and perhaps slightly more familiar with the foibles of complex electronic devices - and I hate the prospect of a 5 cent Taiwan-made resistor failure leaving me stranded in some remote area.

I also plan on keeping my '02 for a long time, so slowly try to accumulate some of the more critical items that make it tick - besides, I figure that if I can obtain them at reasonable cost, they will hold their value, sorta like money in the bank... ;)
