my truck has had this strange problem in the front end, it has a clunking or loose feel through the steering wheel, truck has been to the dealers 6 times, steering box replaced, inner tie rod end replaced, now the ball joints replaced at my expense, I was getting bad tire wear so I think the ball joints where really bad. the problem doesn't seem near as bad with new ball joints but its still there.

the strange thing is I don't feel it when the weather is cooler or normally when I first start up the truck and go. its after it heats up, I feel it mostly when I make a slight turn to the left at slower speeds I still feel it when I turn to the right but not as much. sometimes when rolling to a stop I can pulse the brake pedal, which briefly transmits weight to the front and I can feel the movement/clunk feed back through the wheel. I also feel it if I pull into a parking lot and I come to a stop usually while turning at the same time and the truck is rocking back in forth. its driving me nuts. it just feel like something has back and fourth movement as the truck travels over slight bumps in the road, and ideas on what to check.

Trackbar. I've had 3 3G Ram 2500 4X4s. All needed the trackbars replaced within 35,000 miles. The top bushing gets pretty hot from the engine fan blowing on it and the bushing gets soft.

No the track bar is what keep the axle centerd under the truck. Its the bar that connects to the axle on the passenger side and to the frame rail on the driver side.

After re-reading this post it might be the steering shaft joint getting some wear too.
