I say open the borders and issue the green cards. This goes both ways. Organize the Mexican workers,when there wages equal ours, manufactering will come back to the US.

I have worked with more than a few Wetbacks. I can tell you that most work their bu++s off and are paid little for it. These are thankless jobs,that no white or Chicano would want. I know of one little wet,his father is an American citizen. He was born in Mexico by his fathers first wife. It has taken him 5 years to get a green card!He had to drop out of highshcool in Mexico to come here to support his father(living here)was was injured on the job(employer not recognising him as employee). Comes to work everyday works harder than anyone else and gets paid less(with no benefits).

Almost all of us were imigrants at one time. I am suprized some would want to deny anyone the right to better themselves. The people that are a burden to our society are the ones already citizens and on the welfare roll for the last three generations. We as the American people have a obligation to help people,but to give them money for making more babys(that will be on welfare too)is ludicrist.

I agree with illflem, the newest ones over are the best workers. What he says about agriculture is true. They are the only workers the cotton gins can find around here, plus they are willing to walk the cotton fields in the summer chopping weeds. I also see them taken advantage of by people who will house them and find them jobs, them taking most of their pay in return. Or when they get paid, the women come and pick them up, then so long pay check.
Something must be done however, if we are going to survive the numbers that are making it over the border. In Texas, the Hispanics are the fastest growing ethnic group. I bet the numbers don't even include a lot of the illegal ones. I don't know what the answer is but I don't think we can keep things the way they are for much longer.

I thought about that before,what if the US just starts shipping all the welfare cases and prison inmates down to Mexico?Could even be expanded to Democrats. Here it is,people stereotyping races. Yet not wanting to call a wetback the same. Most illegals I know(and I know a few)would rather be called this than illegal mexican. And would be more likely be offended by the rhetoric being spouted here.

Isolation is not the answer to our imigrant problem. And sooner or later we will either have to arm and start shooting at the border or give it up and let em across. The way it is ain't working. I have heard this kind of talk all my life and it pi$$es me off.

You see I am second generation from northern Italy on my fathers side. I have been called Dago,Whop,and a few more names I don't think I can mention on this site. I have had my nose broke too many times to mention. What these name callers did not not know is on my mothers side I go back to just after the Mayflower and am kin to ole Abe Lincoln.

Most of the Mexicans I know are good people. I have come to realize that all races have mostly good and a few bad. This racial diversity is what makes America great. We are just speculating,guessing,and taking someones elses idea of what might happen. Just like Chicken Little thinking the sky is falling. I wonder who is really behind this rhetoric?Sounds a little like Germany just before WW11.

Some day they will take over. It wont be with guns in a big war, or anything remotely violant. It will be with a vote.

They know if they get their people in office to start making the money flow their way even more, they will have it made... even more than now. They are not stupid.

They have been voting for hundreds of years down there. Only thing is, a vote down there doesnt matter due to coruption in the electoral system... . BUT up here they know a vote means something.

Mark my words. Before my lifetime is up, there will be more laws passed to get them on the federal welfare payrole before long because the elected people know they are coming by the thousands, and they all vote, which in turn will cause a very significant "uprising" amoung mainstream mid income American Joe.

I employ many Mexicans in my orchard and what I've found is the illegal newly immigrated ones or the ones that return to Mexico when the work is finished are the best workers. Once they get legal and decide to stay in the US they work like gringos-slow if at all. I pay the same high wage to both,but prefer to hire the illegal ones. If there were no illegal aliens agriculture in the US would be finished,no white folks or even legal Mexicans want to do this kind of repetitive work and I don't blame them. I think letting them cross legally with a limit on how long they can stay is the best solution.

Anyone see the program on Discovery about the Boarder Patrol?During WWII the boarder was opened up so the Mexicans could come do the farm work while the American men where away fighting. When the war was over the returning men didn't like the idea of jobs being taken away by the Mexicans,so the BP, along with military assistance,basically formed a line from northern Calif though Colorado and down through Texas to the Gulf,then herded the illegals back to Mexico,they estimated that over 4 million were pushed back home. I'm in favor of doing this every year,but now starting the line much farther north.

I don't feel the population explosion is a political fever. It comes from another taboo. Religion. If the high and mightys in Rome could see the unfed,uncared for,and pain they cause by their backwards stance,maybe they would change their anti-birth control idealogy. But can't the same be said for most religions?And these rules come from wanting the religion to grow by shear numbers. There are more than one or two religions with these beliefs. Sad.

I say open the borders. With the laws stating if you don't have a job within a certain amount of time,its back you go, period!The same should be done with all the welfare roles.

My fathers people stopped speaking Tirole when they came to America. It was understood"you are American now,speak english". However I wish they didn't. It would be nice to have a second language. It would also be nice to know a little more of my heritage. Some of this is lost forever!I do believe it is rude for someone to speak another language when in a group or another who does not understand it,unless this person cannot speak english or whatever language.

In a hundred years our whole world will be over poupulated. We humans are like a bunch of rabbits. I had my 2. 5 and got out of the buisness. Still have the . 5(two dogs-two cats). Keep the faith folks,get rid of the religion.

This is a sad state of affairs. MGM, on the one hand I am with you, I am American, and sneaky illegals taking our money away rubs me the wrong way.

On the other hand I am young(22), and I have my own business(landscaping), and I can honestly say that finding a "person" to work who grew-up in America in ag related jobs is becoming a joke. The double standards that sh%$ty parenting has produced here (i. e. if you work with your hands you'll never get anywhere: Get into computers, there is the money: And my favorite you need a college degree to go anywhere) has produced a young population of pu$$ys who can't do these jobs for 8 let alone 12 hours a day.

Anyway, before I rant too much again, I have worked with a few hispanics, they like everyone else have their goods and bads, but by and large they have pride in what they do, few yuppifide Americans can say that. Americans could live without illegals doing the dirty work, but we would have to come to terms that not everyone is worth 6figs a year, and that everyone has to pitch in to pull up the slack meaning OMG more people need to learn hand oriented trades. Sorry for chattering, but i deal with this labor issue daily, and it's down right scary.

IMO most these posts are right on target. Champagne hits a spot most wish to ignore... religion. Here we are one the most powerful and "helpful" countrys in the world and we are distracted to the point of believing that feeding and sending aid to a country that thrives on reproduction, I do believe the word is "enablers". I'm sure many of you have seen that whining Sally Struthers late at night babbling about feeding these people, hogwash! Send them birth control and use the money to educate them. I feel it's no different than "helping" your children till the get "on their feet", 40 years old maybe!

Yes I agree that a change is well overdue, and if done right both us and them will benefit. After all what we have been doing is not working and never will. Face it if your standard of living could be improved 50 fold and all you had to do was move you would, if not you are beyond a fool. Bottom line is you have many, not all, are here for a better life, if you enable them to do so and become part of OUR country we can tax them as much as you and I!

On education, put that bilingual crap in the out file along with ebonics! Want to live here do like most of our ancestors, become a cog in the wheel rather than another burden on our great country. I am not world traveled, but I do not see folks running off to Mexico or El Salvador so that tells me we are thee country! #ad

It comes down to common sense. Which Benjamin Franklin said "is not that common" (at least I think it was Ben who said this). We have to stand back and look at what opening the borders would REALLY do. I liken it to the farmers of the early days (1800's). They would grow the same things year in and year out, and soon the land would effectively die. Then someone figured out crop rotation. Viola! the land returns to fruitful abundance. We are facing a time of coming up with figuring out our human form of crop rotation. I come from Irish and Dutch descent (sp). From history, it is a well known fact that the early Irish were treated pretty poorly, along with many other ethnic groups. But everyone forgets one simple fact, they SURVIVED. And they did it without any GOVERMENT help. They taught their children that to succeed you HAD to work hard, and have some form of education. Either book or trade taught.

Todays immigrants (and irresponsible American parents) don't seem to want to TEACH their children that life is not a bowl of cherrie and yours for the picking. I can take you to the one of the largest Hospital districts in the nation, and show you that as immigrant children are born there is someone in the room within the hour showing the mother how to sign up for government assistance!! I am not blaming the child for being born, they are the innocent ones in this, I blame the people who caused the child. If you can't afford the child without the help of the government, then you should loose the right to reproduce. I believe with the posters above that Religion has very much to do with that here.

But also how about street signs in Houston that are printed in about 4 different languages. With my tax money!!!! If I went to Mexico, France or India would they print signs in English??? Probably not. What if I went to Mexico and went looking for goverment asistance??? They would laugh me out of the office. This country was made great by people assimilating towards the same goals. One language, two parent families, strong work ethic, and a healthy dose of humility and reverance for others. There are pockets of immigrants in large cities who have no desire to change from their old countrie ways to American ways.

And don't give me this crap about not wanting to loose touch with your heritage. Go to the library and read about it or visit your homeland as often as you can afford. America is multicultural, but not to the exclusion of the culture!!!!!

Oh boy... . tough issues.
Grew up in agricultural California and my best friends were itinerant crop workers. They worked hard, paid taxes, raised families, gained citizenship, and had values.
Today California is a mess (for lack of a better superlative). The Mexicans (and other elements) are taking over the state. They don't work, they deal drugs, they don't honor the family tradition, and they lack ethical values.
I hate to generalize (there are good and bad apples in every basket), but visit Southern California for a week and tell me I'm wrong. You'll race home and kiss your livingroom floor !! Joe
