Hey Guys, I have an 07 4X4 Quad cab dually with 55K on it and driving home tonight coming up to a stop sign I got this really strange shutter in the drive line. Feels like the clutch is coming apart. Not sure, but even coasting up to the stop with it out of gear it was shuttering. I checked the carrier bearing and it feels good along with the U-Joints. Whats more strange is it sounds like a bearing is squealing at a dead stop. Throw out bearing maybe. I am just not sure but hugely disappointed with this truck. They have had to set the ring and pinion depth in the front end because it was to tight and it is also on its 3rd clutch. This one has 50K on it. the first one went bad in 800 miles second one lasted 4K. I thought it was solved but man I'm just not sure. I service it on time and tow 10% of the time a 6K boat only. I never abuse it as it is also my daily driver to work so I depend on it heavily. Oh also when pulling away from the light and driving down the road it seems to all but go away but as soon as you come back to a stop the shutter is back and it is baddddddddd.

I would check the u-joints also. Your u-joint might be freezing up, from rust. It will feal tight and look good, you have to take the drive shaft out to check them. My first one (rear) went around 40k and the second (mid) at around 90k, both froze up. I had even bought a new center support bearing the second time and didn't use it.

Squealing at a dead stop? That's got to be something internal, such as a throwout bearing or clutch. But I don't see how a throwout bearing would cause a vibration. That sounds like a clutch, to me. I don't see how it wouldn't vibrate all the time, though, as you're saying it quits on accelaration... ... The only things it could be would be a clutch issue, as you're suggesting, or a combination of issues. Is it worse when you get on the brakes?

Yeah I was thinking more a combination of U-Joints and the clutch. As I said in the post a squealing noise at a dead stop, but also a shutter as I am decelerating. Under load it is all but gone. The front end had a whooping noise in it right of the lot and I lived with it for 40k. I took it back when it started to howel and they ended up changing out the Diff Main bearings, axel bearings and seals and reset the ring and pinion depth all the way out to the max. So that is curred but this clutch thing is really getting old. My truck is completely stock. What is really agrevating is I love my ride and have already spent a ton of money in Doo Dads and I want to take my truck to Carli down south and have him instal a 2. 5 pin top system with the control arms, upper and lower ball joints and a sway bar. But every time things like this go wrong I just feel like selling it. My 98 24V 5 speed stick Sport 4X4 gave me an unbelievable 165K trouble free miles. Only thing that truck ever got was tires, brake pads, and one new clutch at 100K. I regret trading it in. All pull the shaft out tonight after work and really give it a good look over. If it is bad, I'm replacing it with a one piece aluminum. with my luck it is probably the U-joints and the clutch. I swear I got a black cloud over me all the time.

Pulled out the old drive shaft tonight and installed my new one piece aluminum from Dog House performance. Chris was great to deal with and shipping was super fast. Launch Shutter gone. Shutter driving down the road gone. Coming to a stop shutter Gone. All never go back to a two piece. The Center support carrier bearing was toast along with the U joint at the differential. Completely froze. 55K and it was garbage. I live in central California so it does not make sense. additionally the tension pully for the fan belt was toast. Hence the noise at a dead stop. So it would appear I have all the bugs worked out for now, but I have to say this truck has had way to many problems for such low mileage. I guess it's off to Carli for a Pintop Kit and ball joints. Maybe once all that's done all actually have a truck that performs as good as it looks.
